shumsheh- I have far from perfect numbers! I’m just crossing my fingers on this one. I really want to go to USC next year too. As I stated before, I’m originally from Norcal =). Did your friend apply to RHP as well? If so, do you mind sharing some of her experience with us? Thanks!

Oh and thanks to Greenery for all that helpful info! I actually read through the entire RHP 2009 thread one boring afternoon and found it to be really helpful and interesting in terms of when things are coming, etc.

Well, he says he really likes it up to this point. He originally planned on getting a high school diploma alongside RHP, but his schedule didn’t work out, so he ended up not being able to take the necessary high school-equivalent classes to receive a diploma. But, as mentioned by Greenery, he doesn’t really care, seeing as though he’ll have a degree from USC anyway.

He received a letter in March, but I’ve also heard of people getting phone calls in February from Penny with good news, though I think what she says is slightly equivocal out of necessity (legal stuff, I assume).

I have a 4.08, and earned a 2120 on the September date. What about you guys? I feel pretty inadequate, haha

Ohh okay thanks. I can’t believe we have to wait until March! Do you know if you need absolutely amazing stats?

I have about the same as you- weighted GPA somewhere between 4 and 4.2 (4.3?). We’ll see after this quarter. My unweighted is really horrible though. I got a 2210 on the SAT in November and I wish I had a chance to retake it before March but I have to take the Math SAT 2 in January. I doubt my March score would reach them on time!

Do you guys mind sharing what you wrote about in your RHP applications? I don’t remember much- something about a book, a movie, and why we wanted to do RHP.

Yeah, my unweighted isn’t tremendously great either. Ah, good luck on Math 2. I’m on the fence about retaking the Math 2. I got a 780 on my first try, but feel that I can get an 800. If I’m not accepted to RHP, I’ll most likely take another shot at it.

Well, for my book, I wrote about Anthem by Ayn Rand. I wrote about Full Metal Jacket for the movie. I can’t remember exactly what I wrote, though. You?

Shumsheh, I really don’t think you need to retake the math 2 test, since from what I’ve heard, as long as you get above a 750 on a subject SAT there isn’t too much of a difference for colleges.

As for my stats, I have a 4.5-ish weighted GPA, 35 on the September ACT, and I’m planning on taking the SAT in January.

For the movie, I’m pretty sure that I put Hotel Rwanda; for the book, A Thousand Splendid Suns. Other than that I don’t remember what I really wrote about either.

froggy- Wow. I sincerely hope not very many people have numbers like those. That’s really impressive after completing only 2 years. Which APs have you already taken?

Don’t worry; all of your stats are extremely high too! I have already taken World History AP, and I am currently taking English Lang&Comp AP, APUSH, AP Bio, AP Calc AB, and AP Chem.

froggyonice- I’m taking the exact same classes as you! Except AP Psych instead of Bio because Bio freshman year left a bad taste in my mouth. Yeah I agree with shumsheh that your stats are amazing. How do you do it??

I will now reveal the magic secret…

I do not have a facebook account :)

That is actually a really good idea. I have always wanted to stop going on facebook, but I am a little scared that if I do get rid of my facebook account, I’ll get withdrawal symptoms. I always deactivate it around finals though so maybe I’ll give it a try and leave it deactivated.

Thanks for the advice!

Oh, I see. My gpa doesn’t include the classes I’m taking at the moment, which is why my weighted gpa is AP-deprived. I’ve only taken and passed AP Calc AB thus far, but plan on taking 7-8 exams this year. I guess my school calculates gpa differently from yours?

Yes, Facebook is the bane of my existence. It’s great to be able to keep up with everyone, but it can be SO distracting. I almost wish that I lived some twenty-odd years ago when your only distraction was demotivation. Though, the internet is a great tool for instant research.

Oh jeez guys I’m freaking out I just got an email from someone from RHP saying they didn’t get a part of my application… I just redid it and resent it but I am so nervous! I hope it doesn’t affect their decision in any way!

Also, it seems like a lot of you guys have taken SAT 2 tests. We didn’t have to take any to apply, did we? I took the December SAT and got a 2370 (god knows how), and my weighted GPA is like… 4.4 maybe? That’s only from freshman and sophomore year (I only took one AP class, but our honors classes are weighted too).

And this year I’m taking four APs–Chem, AB Calc, US History, and Computer Science.

Haha I am OBSESSED with facebook its actually really bad…

Hey guys so I had a quick question–I just logged onto the USC website where I had submitted my application, and under “Application Status” it said:

Undergraduate Application (Part II, Fall 2010)
Your application has been forwarded for committee review.

What does that mean? Is that normal? Or bad or good? What does it say for the application status for all of you guys? Thanks!

Hm… looking at all the other threads, I think it’s a good sign!
I’M REALLY JEALOUS. My status remains unchanged.

Wait what does your status say? Because this is the first time I’ve ever looked at mine. I hope its a good sign, and if it is I hope all of your statuses change too!

Mine is the default one:
Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don’t receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.

It’s been like that since December, after I turned in my application.

Okay my application status is now back to the original one. I don’t know why it changed, but I had emailed the admission office last night asking why, so hopefully they have an answer. But I think it must’ve just been a fluke!

LOL don’t worry! I’m pretty sure you’re in, judging by the change of status + your amazing stats. Are you going to go for sure?

Gosh I hope so! I guess my stats are good enough except I’m really worried about my essay (because I know they consider that a lot) and my ECs, since I don’t really have any big passion I’ve been doing my whole life.

And as for if I go, I know that I personally want to go 100%. The financial thing, though, is a big concern, and it’ll be a huge factor in my decision. My parents are also kinda iffy about me living so far away at 17, but I think that if I do get in and get a scholarship then they’ll be much more amenable.

What about you?

Well RHP students do get a Dean’s scholarship, if that helps any. You might end up getting a big one too, you never know! I definitely want to go 100% too and my parents are all for it if I can get in =/.
