ok thank you so much!

sorry one more thing… even if i did call in like what do people normally say?

Ask to know the status of your application–have you been put on a decision list–has a letter been put in the mail for you–when is it likely that you will know if you were accepted or not–stuff like that, Nicole.

I don’t figure that I’ll get a call at this point. Tomorrow’s Saturday. I doubt even Admissions Officers work on Saturdays. I don’t suppose it would take longer than a week to call all the Yes-people. And if all the calls to the definite Yes-people were made this week, then where does that leave me? In a pile of undesirables who might just happen to get in depending on how many of you Yes-people decline.

I’m not bitter; I never really expected to get in. Too many people with five, six, seven, eight AP classes, particularly in California.

Maybe I’m being fatalistic. I need some sleep. Anyone got a bit to spare?

Maybe they haven’t called me because I didn’t submit any financial aid forms? (At the advice of my parents.)

i know i live in california and all the people from my school who got accepted have a 5.0 its insane and makes me look so stupid. i want to get in so badly i want to make my parents proud and there not to keen on me going far away

Just to make your parents proud, and so as not to look stupid?

Honey, I think there’s a tad bit more than that to this game. Not to seem haughty.

Well, I’m rather confused.

To anyone who knows that they’re in: Congratulations.

To anyone who got a call:
What were you explicitly, directly told? Did she say “You’re accepted” or what?
My phone call basically said “We’re very interested in you and you’re more or less - oh wait, I can’t finish that sentence until the admissions office (not RHP) does something with your application, which I can’t tell you about, which won’t be until early March. Regardless, you should start looking for scholarships and scheduling USC visits.”
And that, more or less, was it.
There was no direct “You’re accepted,” though it seemed implied.
I can understand that, I suppose, but I don’t know why I would get a call now just to imply that I’ve been accepted.
To clarify my lack of comprehension, were you told that you’ve been accepted?

Edit: Looking back at the previous posts, I believe my experience was most similar to that of Dopamine (neat name), minus the e-mail. Perhaps I should send one…

Poirotsfriend: As Chuckles said, “Calling probably just means they want to schedule scholarship interviews. The majority, id think, just receive the letter in March Aprilish.”

topher: Your situation does sound kind of strange. I was told that I would be getting a letter of acceptance in March, when the second batch goes out. So maybe some of you who haven’t gotten calls will still get in in the third batch of admission decisions. And Poirot, don’t become so pessimistic all of a sudden. I definitely don’t have 5+ APs.

I apologize for being so pessimistic; last night I was really tired and everything seemed to have greater significance than it really does. I would hate to make someone depressed based on my selfish rambling.

Now I’ve had some sleep and coffee, and things don’t look nearly so grim, I suppose. It’s probably true, that those of you who received phone calls are just scholarship-worthy. I can see how I would not be amid that group. The ratio of no-calls to yes-calls on CC is just higher, I suppose, because CC is the culmination of brilliant minds. (Not that I am so self-aggrandizing as to count myself among the number.) I’m sure the majority of people have not received calls. I’m just with them.

By the way: your ‘Penny’ is actually Dr. Pennelope Von Helmolt, I suspect. Just something I randomly came across.

Huh! I’m suddenly a Junior Member of CC. Just because of this thread. How funny.

topher: i emailed her, and she said that she just didn’t want to say it directly cuz they aren’t technically supposed to. but we’re in [she said she was trying to tell us “to expect a positive response” and not have to wait til march ]

Levodopaminescene:
Well then, excellent, thank you.
I’ll have to see it to believe it, obviously, but it certainly eases the mind to hear that.
Too bad about not getting the scholarship (I assume), though…

no problem !
but yo, my handle is just dopaminescene.
& i’ll assume you’re a neuroscience lover too?
i got fourth at brain bee this year, 3rd last year …

[Carbi]dopaminescene:
I got third this year and I didn’t take it last.
I was thrown out because I missed a terribly easy question about superoxide dismutase.
Will you take it again in CA? I almost certainly will, if I go.

rosinyangster:
I was creeping through the earlier posts and guess what, I’m interested in corporate law too. I’m really curious about this internship you did in China. I’ve been looking around for a summer internship in law lately and that sounds like an awesome opportunity. Was it some program you applied to? or more likely knowing how China works, did you use your connections? Any info or help would be greatly appreciated :).

Charles: Would I be too nosy if I asked a semi-personal question? Does your last name begin with a letter in the first or second half of the alphabet? (Is it a letter before M and N?)

Begins with ‘S’.
Ha no worries. And Penny told me to call today so I did. Apparently I’m one of the first of the second batch of admissions. Would have been in the first she said but the Engineering school I applied to didn’t like that I haven’t taken calculus yet. From that, I guess they’re still pretty early in the decisions process. They do them a few at a time so just because some have been admitted already doesn’t mean they’re done.

Wow, I’ve missed a lot of posts! o_O
Congratulations to everyone who got calls so far, and for those who didn’t…don’t presume the worst. Because I’m quite certain Penny said that they weren’t really supposed to notify people so soon, and that they only called a few select people so that we feel less anxious.

People, how likely are you guys of going to USC next year?
I hope to see you guys at Explore USC! (;

chuckles7023: Penny said I was in the second batch also! So you applied to Viterbi? I applied to Marshall for Business Admin. About the internship…it wasn’t a straightforward program that I applied to. The law office I interned at generally takes undergrad students, but when I listed some of my credentials they decided to try me out. (Btw, I look a bit younger than I am. Except in China, that’s the norm apparently, so people thought I was a college student. Hah.) The office deals with patent and trademark law. I was in the translation department, so I had to deal with a lot of Chinese-to-English revisions. I would have much rather shadowed an attorney in the courtroom or something of that sort, but the experience was insightful in that it gave me an inside look. The hours were kind of long (for a student) though…Eight hours a day, five days a week. GAH!!! >_<

crayzii8: I did Part I before Part II, yeah.

Do you guys have Facebook, by the way?

we should just make a fb group lol.
rhp hopefuls/acceptees

Thanks for the info rosin. I guess I’ll just look more aggressively until I find something ><. It’s nice to know that those undergrad only requirements are more flexible than I thought. I’m not that fond of spending a summer in China though. I love visiting but as soon as two weeks rolls by I start missing home and friends insanely. Just curious, which city was it in and where did you stay?

I’d totally join a facebook group. It would be a better way of communicating especially with visits and everything drawing closer. Search:
