Rice University Class of 2028 Official Thread

I just have a feeling it’s the 22nd

Did anyone submit an art portfolio? Just curious if anyone else is applying for studio art and if you know how much a really strong portfolio helps. It is optional for the major.

My D24 applied for B.Arch. and submitted a mandatory architecture portfolio with a mix of architecture and art pieces. It’s said that portfolio quality is one of the most important criteria, alongside demonstrated interest, for their evaluations.

For most of the yield protecting schools and those with both ED1 and ED2, it feels like demonstrated interest has been in the driver seat for their final decision making this year.

But most top schools don’t consider demonstrated interest a lot.

We applied to architecture and its mandatory and very important.

Rice does consider DI:

Usually, super highly ranked universities don’t consider DI because at that point, if you are admitted to one of those universities then it’s a no-brainer to attend. But for universities in Rice’s tier, DI is still worth something.

I know Duke, Northwestern, NYU, Michigan, and Dartmouth all consider DI.

Do we still think it will be this Friday?

Could be possible. My guess is next Monday as that was when it came out last year.

It will be next week apparently

“Considered” is the lowest tier of consideration, above only “Not Considered” in importance. Further, the fact that Rice left the entire ‘Important’ column blank says much IMO. They’re drawing a very stark, clear line between the stuff that really truly matters, and the rest.

Like, sure. They’ll glance at stuff in the Considered column. But obviously those things are not going to make a meaningful difference in the grand scheme of things. If they could or would, they wouldn’t be in that column.

Which is not to say you shouldn’t do the DI stuff that’s available to you. Or the other stuff in that column. But don’t get nuts about it.

Ha, we shall see! Wish it were this week! I guess I’ll guess: I’ll say, they’re posting tomorrow that it’s going to be Monday.

why wouldn’t it be this friday

Most likely won’t be Friday as there is still about a week left and Rice would have notified before

Dang dude. :frowning:

So won’t be tomorrow? Anyone heard anything from Rice? Mar. 28th is Ivy day, should be before that.

Someone at the Calendar forum says she knows the date but that she is not allowed yet to post it
IMO it will be the 27th
