Rice University Class of 2028 Official Thread

Nope, neither of those. I think my only ‘hook’ was being an underrepresented minority, but with AA being banned I’m not sure if it was a factor. If I had to guess, my test score made up for the gpa and got me in the door and my essays got me accepted

I really think universities have a quota for each school and prior matriculation is very important. One student from our school went to Rice last year and Rice again accepted 1 from our high school this year.

My child was accepted with similar stats. 1550/4.0 14 AP and 1 DE. Varsity sport captain. NHS President. EC, internships. That being said, he has been accepted to Rice, Amherst and UNC while rejected by Notre Dame, UVA and Wash U. It is quite a random process. Goodluck to your nephew - he will end up at a great school.

I got in through likely letter, was honestly surprised but they did give me an interview and I was contacted a few days before because of some financial stuff, so I knew something was up lol.

I also got a financial email earlier this week but didn’t want to get my hopes up lol. Just curious, what did your likely letter read like?

seems hella sus lol

Daughter got accepted to the class of 2028. She has some good choices (Johns Hopkins, Tufts, UMD, Case Western, U. Connecticut, Pittsburgh Univ., etc.)

The admission committee has reviewed you application to Cornell Univeirty and I am writing to let you know that you will be offered admission to Cornell as part of the class of 2028, blah, blah I think the reason I got a likely letter was because I applied to Nolan, my friend from New York also applied to Nolan and got one, I head someone say that they sent out only to Nolan or something.

Remind him that one single admissions committee decision is not a reflection of his worth. He can also re-apply as a transfer. My brother attended 2 colleges before finally transferring into his target school. (Rejected as entering freshman, again for his sophomore year, and then finally admitted as a junior transfer).

waitlisted–was expecting a rejection after all the portal astro stuff today lol. hopefully i’ll get something on thursday or tomorrow (georgetown)

The Common Data Set supports Rice’s WL is a soft rejection:

Fall 2022, did not see one for 2021 or 2020.

Frankie, your transcript is anything, but “unimpressive“… Congratulations!

Astrology for “no availability” when scheduling a financial meeting on decision day for a moment = accepted, held true
