You’re welcome Congrats!
Honstly, not true. We tried when FA meeting calendar was not grayed out yet, able to book a meeting with a lady for this Thursday, it gave us the false hope…
Both withdraw and FA meeting calendar failed, I think the only sign is the email from FA dept., which we’ve never received.
This was just tweeted by the editor of Rice’s school newspaper. I’m sure a full article will be coming soon. It will be interesting to see the full stats because the incoming classes have been larger the last few years so with this low of a rate the number of apps was likely up quite a bit.
Rice admitted 7.5% of their applicants to the Class of 2028 yesterday, according to the Office of Admission. Acceptance rates hit 7.7% and 8.6% in 2023 and 2022, respectively.
This marks the third consecutive year of record-low acceptance rates for Rice.
when did you get the email? What time?
That’s because you did it wrong
I don’t think so, FA meeting calendar is straightforward, nothing could be messed up, the Rice portal astrology is not as convincing as Cal astrology. Did you check the source code when you played with meeting calendar? just curious, I remembered you’re CS major.
Anyway, we moved on, decidecd to go to better place. Congratulations on your admissions.
Yes accepted EA to UW-Madison which was always her most likely even if she were accepted elsewhere because so much more affordable and such a great school. Rice was the only one probably in the running but we would have been full pay if she were accepted which would be tough to justify. We really did like Rice a lot though.
My son was also direct admitted to the Wisconsin Business School but he hesitates between that and the Gabelli School of Business (Fordham)
Whew boy NYC vs Madison are also going to be completely different vibes. Good luck on his decision!
Whether or not the boxes were green or grey didn’t determine admissions status. It was the error code returned after attempting to
Here is the article from the school newspaper with this year’s admission stats:
I made a separate waitlist thread: Rice University 2028 Waitlist
Has anyone heard of negotiating with Rice is possible to match another university’s merit offer?
My kid got into Rice Electrical Engineering this year with no Demonstrated Interest. We are still blown away.
Anyone have thoughts about UT Austin Electrical/Computer Engineering v. Rice EE? I am still having trouble justifying almost $90K v. $33K. Plus, it seems to be such a larger, more connected network with UT, and campus is 40 minutes from my home. Anyone suggest passing up UT? I understand prestige, but I have a hard time believing that will go much further than, “Ohhh! You went to RICE? OMG, you must be really smart.” That seems to be the consensus response from the people I’ve interviewed so far, and I think it is more prudent to take the $60k savings per year and invest it so he can have a down payment on a house or start up later. But I’m a weirdo. : )
It has to be a peer school, a top 20ish.
I have a Rice ‘23 grad. Both are great programs. Rice students have much smaller classes, lots of advising and support. The quality of everything about the campus is fantastic. (Other than the current construction.) Housing and food much better at Rice, as is neighborhood location. The alumni are very committed to hiring and supporting other alumni. We were really impressed with Rice all 4 years, and our student loved it.
We have lived in Austin for 24 years and are connected to the university. There is no bad choice you are considering as far as quality of education is concerned. Our Rice student went to Rice for BioE. A big difference at UT is that if you decide engineering is not for you, or the particular type of engineering you were admitted to isn’t, it’s very difficult to change majors and or schools. At Rice you can do whatever you want.
Vibe of school totally different, so it depends on “fit”. Rice is very committed to DEI, which we also support. UT is actively not.
Our youngest is considering both schools plus two others right now. So please don’t think I’m saying don’t pick UT. One amazing thing about UT is no matter where you go in the world, there is likely a Longhorn there.
Under the Texas law, signed by Abbott on Wednesday, any public college or university that does not certify it is in compliance with the measure would not be able to spend state funds allocated to it.
Yes, more than 60 UT staff lost jobs and many student organizations across campus lost their funding.
I had a UT admission recruiter say straight up to me: don’t worry about that Supreme Court ruling, nothing is going to change.
