Can you guys pm me as well. I tried hard for bsmd but now I am leaning towards rice as I got acceptance.
Yes. The programs this year were cancelled because of the pandemic. Hopefully they will resume next year. https://abroad.rice.edu
@Houston1021 you are so awesome!
@Houston1021 how is social life at Rice. I know it is big at UT Austin.
Rice does not have the Greek system, It has the residential colleges instead. During the typical year there is a very vibrant social life for the students. During the pandemic, the traditional large gatherings such as public parties and university wide events did not happen. However, this week is Willy Week and Beer Bike. Go on the Rice web site or look at back issues of the Rice Thresher newspaper for more info. The Rice Thresher | Wednesday, April 7, 2021 by The Rice Thresher - Issuu
Beer Bike races will follow revised format to ensure COVID-19 safety - The Rice Thresher
Is there a Facebook page for parents of Rice 2025? I donât use Facebook much. May stalk from time to time. 4-5 kids got accepted from my D high school. I know at least two donât plan to attend. Some hope for those on the waitlist.
There is a closed Facebook page that is only for parents of students enrolled in the university. Invitations to join this page go out shortly before school starts in the fall. The parent must be approved by Rice as a parent of an enrolled student to join that page. There is an open Facebook page called Rice University Parents Info that anyone can join. Several parents of recently admitted students are posting there, and veteran parents are posting and answering questions etc. There is also a closed Facebook page for admitted Rice Students Class of 2025 that also requires approval of the university for the student to join.
Does anyone know how to show demonstrated interest after you get waitlisted?
You can send Rice a powerful Letter of Continuing Interest filled with specifics of what you will contribute to the Rice community and specifics of why you want to attend Rice. if it is true, say that if offered admission to Rice, you will immediately commit to attend the school. if you have any significant updates, awards, etc that you have received since you submitted your application you can also add those.
@mason3956 I received an email from Rice with instructions to connect on FB with parents of Rice.
YeahâŠRice jumped the gun sending out that email. The parent group they are referring to does not admit new parents until the summer. First the registrar has to get a final list of incoming students and then the parents can be admitted. It is only open to verified parents of Rice students. There is another group though that is a public group you can join that it helpful. If you search âRice Parent Groupâ in Facebook you will find it.
Maybe you can help resolve a debateâŠmy neighbor got into Rice 10 years ago and he didnât have ANY extracurriculars. So he thinks theyâre stupid and you can get into Rice just being a robot/workhorse type. This made me angry because my cousin has amazing grades, rank, etc but ALSO busts his butt in ECâs. Heâs hoping to get into Rice next year. Is he wasting his time on ECâs?!! Will Rice let in the âdo nothingâ kid that just takes 6 APs over the kid that takes 5 APs and actually has a life? ( I hope I wonât be disappointed by the answers )
I got into OUâs MHSP program. They picked about 5/200 this year. Also SLUâs which is giving me a full ride but is an EAP, not completely a BS/MD. but in OU, you can still apply outside and keep your spot in the med school. In SLU, you cannot.
Whoa, so what did you decide and what led you there?
@bsmd229929 Still havenât decided. Talking to a premed senior at Rice who has been accepted to med School and talking to a premed senior at UT Austin who has also been accepted to Med school. Should be able to decide by end of week.
The Ohio U program is a D.O., is that right? Is that what you want?
I have not received such email. We will tour the campus next weekend. But I believe Rice is her No.1 choice now. However she is still debating if it is worth to pay full 70k for rice or less at UIUC for computer science (better ranking). She also appealed for no financial aid. I work remote and can move to Illinois to be a resident there (eligible for in-state tuition at UIUC next year). I told her not to worry about the tuition.
I hope you enjoy the tour! My daughter is a sophomore at Rice and was accepted at UIUC (both her dad and I went there). VERY different campuses!
Thank you. We toured UIUC 2-3 weeks ago and liked it. What is your daughterâs major? UIUCâs CS is ranked No. 5 vs No.20 for Rice.
@mason3956 yes the high tuition will also be a deciding factor.
