Thanks, Bunsen. This sums it up for me.
From today’s Washington Post, suicide rates rise sharply across the country “Increasingly, suicide is being viewed as not just a mental health problem but a public health one. Nearly 45,000 suicides occurred in the United States in 2016 — more than twice the number of homicides — making it the 10th-leading cause of death. Among people ages 15 to 34, suicide is the second-leading cause of death.” https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/news/to-your-health/wp/2018/06/07/u-s-suicide-rates-rise-sharply-across-the-country-new-report-shows/
Thank you for sharing that excerpt, @sabaray. I just read Daphne Merkin’s book and have been thinking about it a lot as people talk about Kate Spade and about suicide and mental illness.
@makemesmart - thanks for that link. I just read something (forgot where) that suicide is more prevalent in older people. I’ll see if I can find the link (it was on Slate or Bloomberg ).
Many times, yes. Even though it might have been a shock to you, it probably wasn’t a shock to the victim.
@SouthernHope , I totally agree. A power play by a spoiled woman and wrecks a little girl’s life!
I have a suggestion: if you wouldn’t say a particular thing about a person who died from cancer or heart disease or another illness, don’t say it about a person who died from suicide.
Wow. @AllThisIsNewToMe . What a disturbing post.
^Yeah, that was over the top.
BTW, the tote? - pretty disturbing imagery.

I saw that and also couldn’t imagine anyone would want to have that tote. It seems very strange but I am not a fashion person at all. I was sad to hear of Kate’s death and knew she was a fashion person, sister in law of David Spade, but that’s about it. So sorry for her daughter. Anthony Bourdain . Very sad.
That tote was designed many months ago. It depicts Kate with a happy hour drink - just like anyone of us would like to imagine ourselves - on vacation, on a Friday night, etc. Many designers have been including their own “portraits” on their creations. Car Lagerfeld’s cosmetics or D&G “family”, anyone?
Thanks. That makes sense. I’m just not into fashion at all so those kinds of totes, dresses, cosmetics, etc. , are just not on my radar.
No, it’s still disturbing imagery. Not like we’re imagining ourselves. Not if we’re paying attention.
I’m confused by why it is disturbing?
Here are Mr. Dolce and Mr. Gabbana and their family members:

And Mr. Lagerfeld:

KS was taking her daughter to look at boarding schools, not colleges. She starts 8th grade in the fall, which is when the application process would start, and many families do some visits over the summer. Also, it is a common practice at these K-12 all-girls schools in Manhattan to explore other options for high school. My daughter attended a similar school, and looked at co-ed day schools as well as boarding options. 13 years with the same group of 75 girls is a lounge time
Most girls do end up choosing to stay on at their current school through 12th - in my daughter’s class for example, about half of them looked at other schools, half of that number submitted applications, and then half of THAT number actually left.
As an FYI, Ms. Spade/Valentine and Messrs. Dolce, Gabbana, and Lagerfeld have likely never put together a tech pack/spec sheet in decades. The gentlemen is question are primarily couture designers, so probably have not sketched a handbag in years, if ever. As with most eponymous labels, there is a team of designers who actually to the work, although the “name” designer likely provides overall inspiration. I’d suggest not trying to discern any underlying meaning in the final design.
