RIP Prince?

I never saw him in concert, but loved his music. Spent many nights at clubs in college dancing to Prince. RIP!

can’t believe it . . .

But life is just a party, and parties weren’t meant to last.

We were just talking last month about getting tickets for his next tour.

Too young. Too sad.

I remember being super frustrated that I could not find his original “kiss” video on YouTube a few years ago. It looks like that’s still the case. Why is that?

He’s been big on not having his music on the internet for some years - youtube, Apple, etc.

@doschicos Maybe his will allows for it posthumously. One can hope.

I will be playing my Purple Rain album tonight :frowning:

Supposedly he also got upset when fans posted videos of his concerts. He was quite “tight” (can’t think of a better word) re having his work online in any forum.

Let’s hope! I’ve never heard much of his thought process for not wanting his music online but he’s been pretty adamant about it, including many lawsuits.

When he appeared on the finale of American Idol one year, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It had been kept secret, so it was a complete and utterly joyful surprise. He sang “Lolita,” one of my favorites from his 3121 album.

My college roommate and I saw Prince in concert at the Chicago Auditorium in 1982! We were so psyched to be there, even with seats way, way in the back.

Went to his Musicology concert in 2004 in Philly. He played for over 3 hours non stop. I just looked up his set list. 35 songs. He was so amazingly talented. One of the best concerts I have ever been to. He surrounded himself with phenomenal musicians and gave them all a chance to jam. Just awesome. He gave a copy of his album to everyone at the concert.

I don’t believe he was ever appreciated enough for the tremendous musician he was.

I am so sad about this one. I’m glad I got to see him perform and that my D got to see him perform and fall in love with his music. He will be greatly missed.

The lyric that keeps singing in my head: “How can you leave me standing, alone in a world so cold”…

Was happily singing along with my car radio (loudly and alone) to “When Doves Cry” during my commute on Monday. Way too young. RIP.

Very sad about this. Prince meant more to me than David Bowie or Merle Haggard, even though I was a little bit past that most impressionable age when I started paying attention to him. I saw him live a couple of times, and the depth and breadth of his talent and his taste were just amazing. He really could do anything.

Prince was one of my very first concerts, 1982, I was in high school. I will never forget that concert.

His music was such an integral part of the early 80’s for me. We lived in Minneapolis at the time–he lived in the suburbs, performed often in the city-- which made it all the more special. Very sad.

We lived in the Twin Cities, too. I know my sister met him at a party. If I remember right, he used to sing at First Street Station or First Avenue!?

“She walked in through the out door” is the line I always think of when I occasionally do this.

I did not know this, but he was a late-to-life Jehovah’s Witness and which didn’t allowed him to talk about his humanitarian work. Evidently there are people out there who really know how generous he was - I hope they feel free to speak about it now so we can see how much he contributed to society.

Hopefully coverage of this will leave no more room for the insane amount of coverage on Kelly Ripa and what a spoiled brat she is. Seriously… I can’t believe there’s room in the news coverage of that given this is a political season.
