RIP Prince?

Great q, JHS. There was a song/video I remember called Black Sweat from about 10 years ago. It was a real celebration of black sexuality and included a memorable line to the effect of “I’ll make you scream like a white lady” lol.

I saw a great clip from the NFL about Prince’s Super Bowl halftime show. Apparently the producers of the show were very worried about the rain during the show (it was really, really pouring). The producers called Prince before the show was to begin and said something to the effect of “You know it’s raining. Are you okay with that?”

Prince said, “Can you make it rain harder?”

Quirky. Unpredictable. Funky. That’s what I liked about Prince.

Ugh… reading very disappointing news this morning the recent hospital stop in Illinois may have been due to a drug overdose:

Although I don’t necessarily consider TMZ a credible news source, a lot of times when it’s about entertainment people, they have it right.

All the ladies on The View are wearing purple or ‘little red corvette’ colors.
(this is one of the few times I watch this show)

Apparently Prince gave to a ton of causes, but due to his religion he wasnt allowed to discuss it. I am seeing a ton of stories about anonymous donations he made.

But are they wearing raspberry berets?

Buying a few Prince songs off iTunes this morning. Already had Kiss, Let’s Go Crazy and When Doves Cry. Realizing the ones I’d really liked in the day but had forgotten about were I Would Die 4 U (complete with hand gestures) and U Got the Look.

It’s very interesting, this mixture of very raw, explicit sexual imagery with a Jehovah’s Witness. Will have to read more about the intersection here.

Absolutely PG; I didn’t know the JW don’t vote either.

I like Prince’s music. But someone on my Facebook feed has been non-stop liking Prince memorial posts since 10 am yesterday. She is well over 100 now… and still going strong this morning. Time to block her – enough.

We were leaving a crowded doctor’s waiting room when the news came on. My husband commented, “It was probably drugs” and this guy practically flew out of his seat, saying there is no way Prince would do drugs. I had to hurry my husband out of there.

1999:

Listening to Let’s Go Crazy in my car a few minutes ago, I noticed there are 4 references to the elevator “bringing you down.” Kind of ironic.

Black Sweat came off the 3121 album. The whole album is fantastic. If you don’t have it, I highly recommend it.

Have you seen/read about the amazing tribute Spike Lee arranged in Brooklyn? An impromptu block party by his house that drew hundreds of fans. There was music, dancing, tears, joy – and tons of cell phone videos. Google Spike Lee Prince Brooklyn Tribute or check out these videos/pics.

The media speculation and the lines of questioning at the press conference are just too much. I’m a huge Prince fan and, at some point, yes I would like to hear the cause of death. However, I can wait a few weeks for the results. In the meantime, we should allow his family and close friends to grieve and the rest of us can celebrate his life’s accomplishments.

Agree. Given that I’m not his family or close friends, how he died is just really not my business and it’s not really newsworthy either IMO.

Some of the questions were just so dumb – “What was the last song he heard?” How does that guy know???

.^^^^OMG, did everyone look at that reporter like “What?! Are you kidding?”

Are they really that stupid or do they pretend to be that stupid?

The confirmed cause of death as stated in a completed autopsy report is certainly newsworthy. Speculation about the cause of death is not, and must be painful to his family and friends.

I just saw online that AMC theatres will be showing the movie “Purple Rain” starting tomorrow and up until Thursday.
