RIT Class of 2024 ED or RD

My son hasn’t heard anything yet for Comp Sci. 34 act. 1510 SAT. 3.8 (Unweighted), lots of APs (all 5s) and college dual enrollment classes. Not a lot of ECs etc. Not his top choice but a strong option depending on where else he gets in. NY state. Suburban high school with good reputation.

Neither has my son. No letter either.
He already has a computing medal award from RIT $8000 per year received at HS Junior Book Awards.
He is OOS Comp. Sci. major.
4.22 GPA 1350 SAT 7 APs
NJ Governor’s School nominee for Engineering/Technology
Varsity sport
Co captain
3 Honor Societies
Volunteer & work experience

Great stats! Makes you wonder how they determine who to send the likely letters to.

Same here.

Son got the $8000 per year scholarship in his junior year (which is conditional on being admitted).

OOS CS major
4.1 weighted GPA
1470 SAT
800 Math level II subject SAT
6APs plus dual enrollment for multivariable calc and linear algebra
worked at military lab in summer + other good activities.

No letter. No acceptance.

Thankfully, my S got into Maryland. Their CS program is top-notch, but the question will be whether they offer any merit $.

yes, mine also was accepted at UMD College Park and UMBC, but only got merit $ at UMBC so far.

MATT2024, Congrats on your acceptance. I see different amounts on here given from the Presidential Scholarship. How do they decide on what to give? Yours seems very high. Do you have stellar academics? Community service? Just curious, thanks!

Just got accepted!!! However no mention of merit. Did those who received merit have that info in letter?

You just got accepted today?

Yes at around 4pm

Son just rcvd a message to check his status. I need to wait to hear from him

Son accepted today (see post #123 for his info).

So, how did he do? Did he get in? Celebrating?

Nothing here still. I guess that’s bad news.

Not necessarily. You’ll probably hear from them over the next 3 weeks. What is your kid majoring in?

Nothing here either. Didn’t realize they trickled out results like this. We are CS.

CS

From speaking to them, it appears that they admit based on each department and not overall into the university. Computer Science is pretty popular and has demanding admission standards. Your son has quite a resume and RIT admits until early March. Just because some people on here are writing that they received an answer and you haven’t heard anything, doesn’t mean your son is not going to get in. They can only handle so many applications at a time.

You’ll hear something soon either way, but I suspect with is resume, it will be good news not bad. One thing that is nice, is that the bare minimum of aid that he will receive is $8,000, but it could be much higher. I don’t know if it’s true, but I read that some colleges spread out admissions of students that will recieve merit and need-based aid in order to “spread the wealth” and not exhaust their funds too soon. I don’t know if RIT does this, but maybe his success in school is delaying the news you want to hear.

Yes, RIT admits by program not by department, college or university. There are some programs that are popular and therefore difficult to get into. Computer Science, Game and Design, Mech Eng, Physician’s Assistant are among those. There are a few others as well and some at different levels.
