This just popped up on my Instagram! https://www.instagram.com/p/DSCXNAGjlv2/?igsh=ZXkzNG9kbmRxYXl0
Iād forgotten some of the details, but I was 22, had just graduated from college in May 1995 and moved to NYC and was living in a tiny, crappy studio at 77th and 2nd. My then-boyfriend (now husband) had an even crappier studio at 88th between 2nd and 3rd.
We were both working at our first big-kid jobs after college, living in the city and thinking we had ARRIVED, lol. And being from Florida, I had seen my first falling snow just a couple months before this blizzard.
OMGosh we had so much fun ā it was such a great time in our lives!
(Before kids and mortgages and car repairs and college decisions, LOL.)
oh my goodness! We havenāt gotten an email yet but during a random obsessive refresh of the portal we see my daughter was accepted Early Action to the ASL Interpreting program with NTID!!!
Anyone elseās kiddo apply EA to RIT for other programs hear yet? Trying to decide if I bug my kid to look in their portal or not!
My guess is that we heard earlier than most since itās NTID and a super niche programāI havenāt heard of many other EA results yet!
So freaking excited for your D26!!!
![]()
Very nice that she (and you
) doesnāt have to wait until end of January!!
You did say that this was a top choice- is that still the case?
I have seen a handful (not today- just over all). Most seem to be international students, but a few others sprinkled in. I think like said above- the NTID aspect probably played a part in the earlier decision.
Even for my D26 (a NTID crossed registered student)- I have yet to see any other ED acceptances pop up that are the same as her major? So I am assuming she got her announcement before others.
Good luck to your kid!!!
Thatās fantastic! Congratulations!
My kid applied EA to New Media Design ā not part of NTID.
No word yet, but she hasnāt checked her portal, either. Weāre expecting end of January? Sheās going to grump at me if I make her check her portal without getting an email first, lol. ![]()
Yes! Her first choice so I guess we are done with this process which feels SO weird to say after all that goes into it!!! We are on cloud nine over here and just soaking it all in!!
Just a small FYI for those on this thread (and for any lurkers
) that are still waiting for Early Decision 1 updates:
D26 looked at the ZeeMee app last night (RIT is pushing this one- so worth having your students check it out at some point)
In the āask a counselorā section they came out and said that all remaining ED1 decisions should be out early this week (so I assume Today/Tomorrow) and that if you do not hear anything by then to email your admissions officer end of this week to double check that all is good with your application.
Good luck to all ![]()
Do you have any intel from the portal about admitted students days? I had seen something that said they had two, on March 28 and April 11 ā are you seeing that?
(I am obviously jumping the gun, LOL ā hope Iām not jinxing it. I think D26 has a very good chance of getting in overall, but the specific major she wants is a lot more competitive and definitely not a given.)
But, we are doing a full admitted students day at Georgia Tech on Feb 20, then flying to Pitt that night and doing their admitted students day on Feb 21.
She got into Miami Ohio honors last night, but sheās been there twice (once for a week-long program in her intended major) and has a good grasp on the vibe already.
So I would love to take her back to RIT to visit if she gets in. Maybe over Presidentās Day weekend ā she has Feb 16 and 17 off school. Do you happen to see any admitted visits in that time frame? ![]()
@SpreadsheetMom I know our kiddos have some similar interests and schools on their list. We have not been to Miami but weāve been to RIT twice⦠my kiddo loved RIT. How would you compare the two? We really need to get to Miami⦠it is in state tuition for us so we have to check it out.
I have a whole lot to say about this, LOL ā Iāll msg you later tonight!
I have March 28th on our calendar, and I know there is another date but not sure what. I will pester D26 for that and report back. I swear I had seen these dates on the website at one time- but canāt seem to find it again
.
We are trying to decide if we want to go up again. Last trip we were in and out so we did not really get to see much outside of RIT- so even though I think these open houses are meant to entice students who have yet to commit to commit
. It might be a good time to work in a visit even though D26 has already done so. See a bit more of the surrounding area so she is more comfortable with the area when she gets there in the Fall.
She finally put down her deposit to RIT on Monday- so it is officially official
.
We had a few questions on some funding sources (how they will play with merit scholarships and such) that got answered and are very happy with everything.
It felt very real after paying the deposit and then closing out all her other college applications. She is saving one to close out until end of week though- got the acceptance Monday right before she paid the RIT deposit. Said it felt rude and ungrateful to immediately decline and wanted to wait a couple of days so it did not feel as rude. I tried to tell her that they donāt care and would not even notice, but she insisted

Hope everyone here is receiving great news from all of the choices on your students list and that the wait goes by quick for those still waiting!!
Iām so excited for your kiddo! You donāt have to pester her, LOL ā my D26 will just have to be patient. She got another email from RIT today asking her to convert her application to ED2, but sheās reluctant to do that.
When my D22 was accepted and had committed to Rice, only she and I had seen it on a tour the year before, so what we did was plan a short family vacation to Houston in the summer (which might be worse weather-wise than going to Rochester in February
). That way my husband and two younger kids were able to see where sheād be going, and we walked all over the area near the school, ate a bunch of great food, went to NASA space center and just had a really nice trip. You could do something like that?
We got that ED2 email too. I canāt fathom having the money to do that. I know they say theyāll release you if itās not affordable but I donāt trust it fully.
The cost isnāt even our biggest concern ā I realize weāre so lucky to be saying that, but we were able to save a good bit in her 529, so she would be okay switching to ED if she really wanted ā but itās just that she hasnāt had time yet to fully explore her options. There are three other schools she likes a lot, and sheās been accepted to all three of them. One would be less than HALF the cost of RIT, plus it has a stellar reputation.
So I really want her to be able to compare the schools with all acceptances in hand!
You have a wise child. Good job, mom!
My high school senior daughter is also very keen for RIT NMD program. She applied EA and submitted honors essay too. she is an introvert, loves art and maths and biology. She made an art portfolio and has very good stats.. Although her stats are are not as good as your daughters. she really loved RIT. But I am not sure about the vibe. I keep wondering if she will be in her own shell there and wont go out to make friends and miss out on college experience. She is shy and very innocent. We have applied to some design schools and received acceptances. but she is very eagerly waiting for RIT. Guess I am just a worried mother. I would really appreciate if you can let me know if your daughter decides to go to RIT for NMD. Hope they become friends if they decide on RIT!
Good luck to your daughter! I will definitely keep you posted on what mine decides. First weāre waiting impatiently for decisions to be released, lol. ![]()
Was there something about the vibe at RIT that felt like your kiddo would stay in her shell there? Or you just think sheād be more comfortable at a design school? What did she love about RIT?
Mine thought it felt really welcoming, with just the right mix of āherā kind of people. She can be quite introverted, too.
Hugs, mama. This is a stressful process. I was so worried about my older daughter when she went away to college because she is an extreme introvert, but she has absolutely thrived in school and had a lot of personal growth in four years. Sheās met great friends and is forever doing something social. (Complete opposite from what she was like in high school.) So it does happen!
