Rob Lowe on sending his son to college

This is just so good. I had no idea what a good writer Rob Lowe is–he expresses his feelings so eloquently. It really brought back all of those feelings of sending my son off to college almost two years ago. This makes me want to read both of his memoirs, “Stories I Only Tell My Friends” and “Love Life.”

My screen is misty.

Ugh… I haven’t dropped off a freshman in college since 2007 and my eyes are watering reading this.
Beautifully written.

I read his first book and enjoyed it. Forgot he had a second book out - I’ll have to look for it. I do think that there is more to him than just his looks.

Aww, sweet. :)

I think his 2nd son is off to college this coming fall. If I heard correctly Stanford.

If that were written on CC they would have been berated for hanging around too long and the boy and dad leaving while the mom set up the room.

I thought it was sweet and moving too, but as I was reading I kept thinking what many parents here would say if it wasn’t Rob Lowe writing it.

I hope they’d say it was beautifully written.

I didn’t know he could write, let alone this well.

^^^ especially given he never went to college. Of course, a good editor can do wonders.

But I think these are his sentiments, perhaps polished up a bit from a helper.

Apparently, Rob Lowe’s mother was a schoolteacher who loved to write and passed a love of the written word on to him. Here’s an interesting short video of him and his family, where his sons talk about how he has helped them edit their writing assignments and overall what a great dad he is.

Rob Lowe's Family - Video;

Rob Lowe lives in my town. I am sure he is a good Dad. A couple of years ago, I saw him coaching his son’s flag football team at the park where I walk my dog. He seem to be very into the whole experience of coaching the team.

However, there has been some unpleasant stuff with house servants suing him and his wife for sexual harassment. Both servants were represented by Gloria Allred. I believe both lawsuits were ultimately dismissed, but it got pretty ugly for awhile. He also caused many reporters and editors to quit or be fired from the largest newspaper in town. Apparently, the paper published his address due to a lawsuit (I think) with a contractor. Lowe complained to the owner of the paper and she disciplined the reporter responsible for the disclosure. There was a mass mutiny at the paper, which is still talked about today. We can always count on the celebrities in our town for supplying us an ongoing source of drama.

Maybe Rob Lowe can get gig writing and editing college admissions essays.

D2 met Rob Lowe’s brother, Chad, last weekend at a party she performed at with another singer. Chad went out of his way to go up to D and her partner to compliment their performance as they were leaving. When D and her partner were walking out of the house, they looked at each other and said, “I recognize that person. That is someone. Who is it?” A minute later they had it figured out. D felt really foolish because she’s a HUGE Pretty Little Liars fan. She said he was ‘scruffy’ that day, which threw her off.

Apparently this son is at Duke. (Regarding the lawsuits, it is fair to note that he also sued them.)

^^^^Yeah, I figured that out as soon as he described the look of the college. But I did google to confirm my guess.

Hey, in America there’s no shame in being sued. For better or worse it’s become “the American Way.”

After reading that, and then drying my eyes, I realized I now have another book to add to my reading list. Not only beautifully written, but really honest and raw. I felt every second of his experience.

I heard an interview with him the other day and my ears did a double-take. Rob Lowe?! Wow, I thought, this guy is completely articulate and smart. I think any excellent writing under his byline might be mainly from him.

I thought this piece was so well written, I just got his first book from the library and finished reading it. I couldn’t put it down, highly entertaining. Reviews on the 2nd book not so good. I’m not a Rob Lowe fan, only have seen him in a couple things…but now would be interested in seeing him in some older movies. I read something Julia Roberts wrote…I am just an ordinary person with an extraordinary job. That has resonated with me whenever I become a little stars truck.
