It’s funny. I’m still at a point where I am happy when I hear him cry. After him not crying at birth because of his breathing problems, hearing him cry is just reassuring. At night, he makes a ton of noises and I have to check several times to make sure nothing is constricting his throat. There never is, but I check anyway.
We had his first real bath today. He was NOT happy. I think the water was too cold though since I looked online and they recommend the bath water be about 100 degrees! The bath was definitely not THAT hot… we have a thermometer in there now. Oh well, live and learn. (There’s an after-bath - fully covered! - picture up where you can see his reaction.)
He’s a good bub. I really don’t know what I’d do without Mr R and my mom here for support though. Especially because he still hasn’t gotten the hang of sleeping in a crib. Mr R and I only both sleep when he’s in his crib but we usually only get that like once or twice a day.
Most babies don’t like baths at first - water not the right temp, cool ambient temp, parents not very adept at bathtime routine. You’ll all find your rhythm in time.
I was taught to check the bath water temperature with my elbow. It should feel comfortably warm.
But there are other reasons why babies might not like baths. Many don’t like the feeling of being unclothed, drafts on their skin, etc. As Shellfell said, you will find your rhythm.
In related news, today I found out that the modern accepted phrase is “make do” instead of “make due.”
I work primarily with late 19th and early 20th century records where they used “make due” (since apparently that was the popular usage at the time) all the time.
