S1 couldn’t wait to move. Walking well before 1yo, and running soon thereafter. He was in a bed when he turned 2yo because he was just about able to climb out of the crib.
What a relief S2 was. He was content to watch S1 run around and didnt walk unassisted until he was almost 14mo. He was probably also afraid of getting knocked down - smart kid!
I always thought crawling was so uncomfortable but apparently babies do not have kneecaps until around age 2. Plenty of time for those late walkers to get going! They have a nice little pad of fat to crawl on instead.
Just such a strange and miraculous idea that bones form “out of nowhere”. Babies are such little miracles.
You really can’t judge how kids are going to turn out. My oldest was always tiny, sometimes not even on the chart. He’s 5’9” now!
He didn’t walk until he was 15 months, 20 days old. We thought he had physical issues. 16 years later, he helped set a state record in the 4x800 repay and could run a mile in 4:26. So you never know!
I appreciate this stage in life where he can’t run away from wherever I put him. I’d like it to last as long as humanly possible lol. I didn’t know that about the knee caps. I am simultaneously intrigued and weirded out.
He’s 4 weeks old today! We got his milestones (months) blanket yesterday, just in time to take his one month pictures.
He’s also getting more alert and will turn his head when he hears our voices, rather than just trying to look with his eyes.
My only real complaint is that he stays up for 2-3 hours at a time, especially during the night. 1- you are not even a month old, you should not be awake that long! 2- I hope he didn’t get my night owl tendencies lol.
So I loved when my kids woke up at night. I would take them downstairs so my wife could sleep after their feeding. Put on some jazz (Holly Cole- Train song) or something like that, mostly female vocal Jazz. Then just rock them to sleep. The music is so pure that late at night without the daily distractions. The kids would just fall asleep. OK, so I was a basket case in the morning but I just loved being with them and bringing music into their lives.
BTW - Beatles songs are so great for young kids to learn songs and their fun… Of course when he’s a bit older.
We do! We actually got like a lazy boy type chair because the regular gliders we looked at were so uncomfortable for me. He likes the rocking and the massage feature that makes him vibrate.
Getting him to fall asleep isn’t the issue - it’s getting him to fall asleep in his pack n play or stay asleep when we put him down after he’s fallen asleep. It seems pretty common at his age though.
My D was like that as a baby. Just wanted to be held at night when she woke up. To eat. We tried letting her cry it out after being fed and diapered, but it didn’t work for either of us and I was more exhausted than if I just held her.
She grew out of it gradually and by 11 months was a rock star sleeper and has been since.
I felt like she add an hour/month of her life to how long she slept at night. By six month she was sleeping 6hrs straight and that felt like a big turning point.
Up until then, I napped when she did during the day so I wasn’t a total zombie.
Doggo is so, so in love. When we give him a bath, we let her in to see what we’re doing and then we have to kick her out or else she will jump in with him. So instead, when we kick her out, she’ll sit outside the door and whine.
At night, because the pack n play is the same height as our bed, she’ll sit over it and watch him until she falls asleep.
When we adopted her 5 years ago, the shelter cautioned us that she would likely not be good with kids (too rambunctious). They were very wrong - and not just now but my oldest nibling is 3.5 now and she’s always been gentle with him. She’s just very good with kids. (Though a rambunctious idiot with everyone else.)
Baby boy is one month old today. He likes bath time, mom cuddles, and hanging out with dad while he games. His favorite toy is a Kylo Ren doll and he’s not quite sure what he thinks of the outdoors yet.
Ha… Love it. I remember we did these Mozart videos for children since we thought it would make them smarter. So yeah.
Putting our kids in front of the TV to watch multiple colors to Mozart music… Great parenting
My youngest never slept. At least that’s the way I remember it. I used to take him to work and he spent the whole time in the sling refusing to fall asleep. It was a good thing it was a slow time at the office because I really couldn’t draw though I got a fair amount of computer work done.
I really don’t know how babies develop or what milestones he should be meeting. He is VERY alert though. He follows us with his eyes and makes and holds eye contact. We FaceTime with my mom almost every day (she was here for the first two weeks of his life) and he turns and tries to find her when he hears her voice. He also lifts his head up and moves it around during tummy time. We probably don’t do tummy time as often as we should…
We measured him at just under 21" and 8.6 lb today. Take it with a grain of salt since we were measuring and weighing a wiggly baby lol. He’s definitely gaining weight though - and quickly. I can feel him getting heavier.
@mathmom I’m still on leave (and will be for another 3ish weeks) but I’ve been taking advantage of doing my “overnight shift” with baby by getting back into photoshop stuff. I stopped doing it when I got pregnant because I was just too tired all the time. It’s felt good to do some creative stuff again.
Just my family observation, so not a scientific study-My son and DIL are so laid back; they read very little about child development, milestones, how to do this and that. Their daughter is so happy go luck and it is so heart warming to see them with her; all 3 giggle and laugh all the time. My daughter is high strung and a nervous Nelly; her husband is a bit better. The baby absolutely can feel my daughter’s stress and worries; you can tell the difference in her infant behavior with mom, vs at daycare, when she was still going. If the baby would cry, my daughter was researching constantly to find a cure. If her diaper had a different color in it, she was worried. I think my daughter stressed herself out trying to do the right thing ever moment, and worrying that everything was a problem. The baby is now 10 months old, doing everything she should at the time frame suggested. Mom has mellowed just a bit and I can see the difference in the baby. They both needed to grow and I think they are finally there!
Just enjoy these times, they go so fast. You can’t break Ren, and he will grow and flourish in your care, even when you make a mistake.
