I don’t think any parent thinks they do enough tummy time. GD was not a fan of it, so S and DIL would only do it until she fussed - which she did. GS tolerates it better than she did, but I don’t think he’s hitting any milestones any earlier than she did.
My new grandson is 9 weeks old and he rarely naps (and when he does nap, it’s for no more than 45 minutes). My D was a little worried that he rarely napped in his crib and mostly napped on her, until her pediatrician reminded her: the first three months of a baby’s life is really the fourth trimester.
In other words, it’s okay for babies to sleep next to their mothers’ hearts. You really can’t mess them up at this age.
In other news, this grandson is already 15 pounds! Yikes!
Wow. Both of my Ds were born at 42 weeks and were 9 lbs 4 oz and 9 lbs 10 oz on the day they were born!
I was looking at D1 through the glass in the nursery. She was right next to a 4.5 pound baby. An elderly woman pointed at D1 and said “Look at that fatty!” I was highly offended. ![]()
Glad Ren is doing so well. Love reading this thread.
My babies were both 6 lbs 1/2 oz and were next to some babies who were much larger than them. It doesn’t matter — my kids and I’m assuming theirs all turned out just fine.
Oh he’s been doing the majority of his sleeping on me or in his bouncer lol. Unfortunately that’s why one of us always has to be up with him though. Which is fine right now but I don’t know how we’ll do it when mr r goes back to work.
Sometimes we get him to sleep good stretches in the pack n play. Most times not so much. He also has no interest in binkies which makes it a little more difficult.
Also @Nrdsb4 Yikes. Even with all the problems that came with it, I’m quite glad I gave birth to a 37 weeker under 7 lb rather than the chonk I’m holding right now lol.
Yeah, as each day after my due date passed with no baby, my attitude became more and more negative. I was induced at the end of week 42 with D1. With D2. (also toward end of week 42),I told my doc that if he didn’t induce me soon, I was going to show up with my suitcase and refuse to leave without that baby. My water broke that night. Ugh…those weeks were tough.
My two huge babies did turn out fine. D1 is almost 5’10’ and is very slender and D2 is a tiny little thing at 5’2" max. Amusing considering their birth sizes.
Just had a chance to go through all the new pics! He is so so so adorable!
Romani, I think he has your lips.
Thank you! I think he has everything from the nose down from my side. My sister swears he is a clone of Mr R but she’s the only one who thinks so.
He started giving us real smiles about 2 or 3 days ago and I managed to get it on camera yesterday (the picture where he’s reaching for me). He also tries to roll towards me if we have him laying down somewhere. It makes all of the long nights worth it.
Those pics made my day.
I think in that 4-6 weeks babies start smiling. That was one of my favorite things ever. it would melt my heart. any smiles yet?
Yes
We got our first real smile a few days ago (he’s 4 weeks right now) and got it on camera yesterday!
Love the smile picture!!
@romanigypsyeyes – are those Ren’s cousins? They are so cute!
@HImom yes! 2 of the 4 cousins. They completely quarantined for 3 weeks so they could come visit.
The oldest one loved him. Kept trying to give him toys and didn’t understand why he didn’t take them. So he settled on rocking him in his chair. The oldest nibling and I have a very close relationship so I wasn’t sure how he’d react to my attention being divided but he was great.
The younger cousin wasn’t a big fan when her mom held Ren instead of her lol. But she was curious about him outside of that lol. It’s funny. Before Ren she was the youngest and by far the smallest. Now she looks huge compared to the newborn lol.
We also didn’t know how the dog would react to people holding him, because no one has besides us and she’s his little protector. She was great though. Came over and checked when he was crying but other than that was content to let him be held.
Love their blond, blond, wispy hair! They all look very happy! Glad they could visit!
Happy first Mother’s Day, @romanigypsyeyes !
Enjoy, @romanigypsyeyes
Thanks guys. We honestly didn’t know that it was Mother’s Day tomorrow since time has lost all meaning between quarantine and being new parents. Mr R felt bad so he traced baby’s hand prints for me while I was napping. It was cute. Baby was not cooperative.
Happy Mother’s Day, @romanigypsyeyes. The first of many.
Happy Mother’s Day!
