S2 wasn’t colickly, but he liked motion. If he was being pushed in the stroller, he’d start fussing if I stopped. If we were in the car, he’d start fussing at a red light. And don’t ask what would happen if we were stuck in traffic - that happened on the LIE and he was miserable, as were we.
@Calmom I do that - look at the clock and know it’ll be over by 5:30 AM. It does actually help.
I messaged his pediatrician over the weekend - I expect to get a response today or tomorrow.
@Kiddie - I’m posting his nightly books that we’re reading. I still haven’t gotten thank you notes out (?) so I’m sending people pictures of us reading their book presents if I know who gave it to us and putting them up there if I don’t.
We’re going to have a zoom meeting with most of my dad’s extended family tonight to meet the baby. Even if there wasn’t a pandemic, this is how we’d meet them since we’re flung all over the world lol.
He’s developing quickly. He knows the sound of his bath and bottles and gets really excited when he hears them. I’ll still be happy when the eat/diaper/sleep cycle is done and he’s a bit more active.
My D had colic, and she cried all night for months. I spent hours rocking her and reading big-people books aloud in the wee hours of the night. Eventually, she cried less at night … but she would cry all day when not held. I would love to say it didn’t last long, but it lasted to some extent until the day - at 9 months -when she got up and just started walking. The crying stopped. We figure she just needed to move.
I know it’s hard, but in 30 years, it will just be a small challenge that you survived. Eventually, you’ll get sleep.
BTW, my S has reflux. We went to a pediatric gastroenterologist for it, because of the risk of choking in his sleep (we had to incline the head of his mattress while we waited for the appointment). He seemed better for a few days before the appointment, and the doctor said babies often outgrow reflux at 13 weeks. The appointment occurred at around 13 weeks, and the reflux was actually gone!
My niece’s reflux didn’t go away for a long time. I’m not sure how long she was on meds for it.
My GF, my mentor in baby knowledge, was told to stop eating onions and spicy food.
Me, well, I remember riding the Boston T (C line) to the end and back. Do you recall that old song, Will they ever return…and their fate is still unknown? An old Kingston trio song. Well, I assumed that was written by another new parent riding the T for an hour.
I don’t know if it’s hereditary but I have GERD. I wonder if that raises his chances of reflux or colic.
My diet in no way affects baby’s diet.
He’s only been in a car 3 times so I honestly don’t know how he’ll do in the car lol.
I recall feeling so overwhelmed at times by my colicky D. Hang in there!
I wish I could give you advice but I had the perfect baby. It wasn’t until middle school that he kept me up at night - while he slept perfectly.
@collage1 described much better than I did what DH did with the extended arm.
Ask the ped if tinkering with the formula is a consideration if he’s been colicky all along.
S seemed a bit colicky at first & I was worried. I was breast feeding, but I had to supplement. The doctor suggested trying soy formula when I supplemented, and it took care of the night time crying jags.
Well we have an e-visit on Thursday with the ped. Hopefully she can give us some answers or suggestions. It does seem to tick all the boxes of colic though - poor baby
We have him on a sensitive formula - but still milk based instead of soy.
I just put up a cute picture of us with 2 of his 4 cousins. The month we were apart because of the quarantine (we’re only going to see each other and they were tested for COVID so no real risk of getting sick) is the longest I’ve ever gone without seeing those niblings. I stayed at their house a LOT when the babies were born and then several days a week since their birth because they lived near where I do my research.
My GD is 13 weeks old and fussy. Parents tried the sensitive formula, but it actually made it worse. They’ve spoken to the pediatrician. Baby now has prescription antacid drops. They just started using them so I don’t know how effective it has been. I suggested switching to the soy formula because I had a similar problem with my S.
Agree it may be worthwhile asking your ORD about trying a soy formula, to see if that may help. Our S only had soy formula.
I will definitely ask about soy. Thanks!
Good luck! It’s so tough when our babies aren’t their smiling selves! Looking forward to hearing things are better soon!
This is why I think babies should remain in the uterus for an additional three months. Then, when they come out, they’ll all be little smiling angels.
^I don’t think I could have stood being pregnant for an entire year!!
In the early 1960’s, our pediatrician advised my mom to pour a jigger of bourbon, rub some on the colicky baby’s gums, and drink the rest herself. My mom never confessed to doing that, but I’ve always wondered!
I could NOT have been pregnant another 3 months, I didn’t even make it to full term and I was so beyond done. At least with the baby OUT of me, I can share responsibility lol. I’ve gotten way more sleep since the baby was born and Mr R and my mom can help lol.
@yauponredux my mom put alcohol on my gums when I was teething. Not sure if she drank the rest but probably…
@mathmom we read your book today! Or, part of it since his attention span is about 20 seconds.
