@romanigypsyeyes That’s great! It’s definitely a book you don’t need to read all at once. And some is funnier if you are familiar with the original versions.
It has been awhile since visiting this thread, so forgive if already shared. I read once to remind yourself, that one day ‘this’ (good or bad), will be the last day. It will be the last day they run to you with kisses, or suckle, or cry through the night. It really does make you appreciate all the small wonderful moments, and forgive the hard ones.
Thanks, KJ.
Doctor said he’s probably colic-y. But he’s gaining weight wonderfully and seems otherwise healthy so she’s not worried about needing to switch to soy or do something else.
She recommended Happiest Baby on the Block and their 5S system for sleeping. (Swaddle, shush, suck, side, swing). We got swaddle and shush (white noise) down last night and just a few minutes of swinging and he was out. He only screamed for about 20 minutes total and it was amazing. I’m hoping beyond hope it wasn’t a fluke.
Our swing was a lifesaver. Ds1 was a great sleeper at night but would NEVER nap unless he was in a swing on one of those doorway jumpy things. He’d jump himself exhausted.
My sis swore by the swings for her kids. Our kids absolutely refused—so glad you found some relief last night and hope it continues.
You are receiving a lot of input from many great (potential) grandparents here.
My older one was colicky the first 3 months. Here is a Chinese remedy we tried - take some alcohol (whiskey, bourbon…) pour some on your hands, rub your hands together for a bit then put a hand over the baby’s belly button. The heat of your hand and alcohol could release some gas from the baby’s stomach.
Another thing that worked for D1 was her dad would carry her on his arm, with her face on his palm and body (stomach) on his arm. He would carry her like that and pat her gently on her back.
D1 used to throw up if we didn’t burb her regularly when she was feeding. Now as an adult she is lactose intolerant. She can’t eat cheese and egg, or drink milk. I probably should have put her on soy milk.
My D was very colicky (“irritable crying”) the first 2 months of her life. The worst was about 7 weeks in. She was born at the end of Sept. and reached the pinnacle of crying on Halloween. We joked about our “little witch.” We were at our wits’ end. She settled down and by Thanksgiving she was sleeping 7 hours a night. By Christmas she was fine. We tried everything (simethicone, car trips, putting her in a car seat on top of the dryer). The only cure was time. Their immature nervous systems will develop and adjust. It is very hard right now but it will get better. I promise.
The upside: she would scream herself into exhaustion and then sleep well (she would have a brief feeding period around 2 a.m. and then more sleep). She got on a diurnal pattern fairly early, so that’s good.
We’re at 8 weeks today and my maternity leave is over. I was 100% ready to go back. (Of course, I work from home so it’s not a huge transition.) Mr R goes back part time on June 8. We found a happy medium with his work to keep us as safe as possible - otherwise he was just going to quit completely.
The overnight screams are getting shorter - though some nights are still the full screams. We have a closed loop of people with my siblings-in-law and niblings so we’re able to visit without significant fear of exposure. If we do break the loop, we do the 14 day quarantine but so far only my in laws have had to do that. It’s made a HUGE difference to have my sisters-in-law and niblings coming around again. My mental health has improved dramatically and baby is enjoying new people.
My SIL, BIL, and two niblings came over yesterday and played with our new splash pad/mini pool. It was a hit and baby liked the water. His oldest cousin (3 years old) was trying to introduce him to the water by patting water on his face and going “It’s ok baby Ren!” It was so cute.
For those still looking at the pictures - you’ll see one with the dog and upset baby. This was during one of his overnight crying sessions and my dog brought him her baby and dropped it in the bouncer with him. And then looked at me like “Why didn’t that make him stop?” It was very cute.
The photos are so wonderful - how lucky Ren is to be so well-loved by both people and pups!
Love the photos! He is getting cuter and cuter! What a great thing that you can see more people now and play together.
Thank goodness puppy has you guys to help her soothe Ren! It’s adorable that she’s so attached to him!
Oooh, I love that close up with the impish grin and the scratch on his cheek.
His eyes seem to be saying, ‘Wait til you see what I have in store for you!’
Darling pics. Especially loved the video. He’s very expressive!
Yes he very much wears his expressions on his face lol. He can also completely focus and follow objects. It’s so fun to watch his development.
@mominva that smirk is so much like mine that it’s scary lol
2 months old today. He’s measuring at 23" so he’s jumped up to 50th percentile by birthdate and 90th by due date. Big jump up from the 17th percentile he was at (by birth date) birth.
His favorite thing is still baths. He loves the extended family he’s been able to meet too.
Happy Two month Birthday Ren! ?
Since my babies were almost 10 lbs at 42 weeks, I don’t want to think about how big they would have been 3 months later, lol. They would have been toddlers.
Colic, gah. D1 was colicky. In fact, she cried almost nonstop for two whole years. Almost did me in, and I had no desire to have another child. 3.5 years later, I had D2.
Funny, but D1 is so emotionally steady now. Hard to believe she spent so much of her early years crying.
I had small babies. The largest was 7 pounds, 3 ounces. Figures since I’m tall. ?
My daughter was always SO serious as a baby and toddler. I could never even get her to smile for a photograph until she was four or so. Then she never stopped smiling and I called her my sunshine.
I can’t get him to smile for pictures. We take videos and use screenshots from those lol. Most of the time right now he’s super cranky because he’s so tired all the time but won’t sleep.
