My kids were both 6 pounds 1/2 ounce and full term. They doubled their weight at 3 months and tripled it at 12 months and stayed on the growth chart—5% for height & weight. They’re still 5%!
S was wanting to be fed every 90-120 minutes, including all nite. It was tiring but I didn’t know any different. D was happily sleeping thru night @ 5 or 6 weeks. She still loves to sleep.
Glad Ren is thriving! He seems to sense all the love flowing his way!
I was always off the charts in height and since Mr is 6’2", I assume he was too - or at least above average. So when he came out in the teens percentile, we were surprised to say the least lol.
No complaints about giving birth to a < 7 lb baby though ?
Yeah, S2 was 8#12oz and three weeks early. S1 was 7#10, also three weeks early. Both my sisters had ten pounders, so I was thankful for the early inductions. (Both were fine, but my BP was getting high.)
Younger son was always off the charts and was taller than his older brother by 1st grade. Has been thus ever since.
S1 was 2 weeks early and 6lbs 15oz; S2 was a day late and 7lbs 8oz.
Growing up, S1 was always taller and weighed more at the same age. Guess who’s taller as an adult? S2 - that rubric of doubling their height at 2yo to estimate adult height sure didn’t apply to him.
Size of mother and/or baby does not determine the amount of pain for giving birth. The contractions cause most of the pain. My premie’s birth sure was painful while my petite sister’s experiences were not bad according to her- and she’s the one who couldn’t stand the pressure of BP cuff inflation! I’m the physician, she’s the el ed teacher.
Birth weight- so many factors. Our mother was a smoker, we didn’t weigh as much as we could have. Percentiles also several factors. I cringed at the lack of peanut butter my sister made sandwiches with- like buttering bread, not providing protein, sigh.
Romani- your families are used to tall people so I expect they will alway have plenty of food available for family gatherings over the years. H and his side and my sister’s are all so small relative to me I feel like the giant. Growing kids need so much more relative to their size- and when they are on a tall height trajectory the needs are even more than the average.
There will be so many stories to tell as the months, then years, go by.
Hi everyone! Almost 3 months old. Ever since going back to work and the lockdown lifting somewhat, (and then Mr R going back to work last week) things have been crazy busy. I fell by the wayside with the pictures but plan on uploading some soon (family is wondering where they are lol). We also bought a new car and I told him that he better like it because it’ll be his in 16 years lol.
I don’t think I updated since before his 2 month check-up. He’s gaining weight wonderfully (12 lb now) and growing along his curve. He was a grump for a few days after his shots but all good now.
He went up to my parents’ for the first time and my dad got to see him for the first time (in person) since he was a week old. He got to go on his first boat ride (he slept) and see his first campfire. He was also very interested in Hungarian dirty bread (I think there’s a picture of him up there staring at my mom’s plate).
Some nights we get 5-6 hour sleep stretches and others we’re still getting only 2-4. It seems very random. But other than that, everything seems to be going well. He smiles and laughs all the time. His favorite toys are these crinkle paper things that he can kick. He LOVES the noise.
He’s rolled over a few times already but he can’t do it consistently. He can also push himself forward when he’s laying on me, facing outward. He holds himself in a sitting position for 10-15 seconds at a time. My mom is convinced he’s going to follow in my footsteps when it comes to developing. I walked at 8 months and I’m REALLY hoping he doesn’t follow that. He is a very strong kiddo though.
Romani, this is pretty much the only thread in the Parent Cafe that isn’t totally ugly on CC these days. Thanks for sharing your happy moments with us.
Ok I just did a mass dump of pics. Enjoy Also I swear my child has clothes! He just has reflux and spits/throws up CONSTANTLY so we just kind of gave up on wearing onesies when we’re home unless it’s cold. And since we’re in summer, that hasn’t been an issue. Plus he’s happier without clothes so shrug
@Southmom thank you for that. I’m glad that he’s bringing joy to others. I hope one day he’ll know how many people care about him.
Oh @mathmom I completely meant to message you at some point and tell you. We keep that book and a traditional nursery rhyme book on our front table for anyone who wants to read to Ren. My FIL came over a few weeks ago and became obsessed with it. He thought it was like just the greatest thing ever.
We’re going to get him a copy for Christmas.
@HImom the very old looking pupper is my parent’s dog. She’s 13 and we honestly weren’t sure if she’d make it to see her “brother.” She did and she was in love. Apparently she heard a baby crying outside today and she went into “our” room (where we stay when we visit) to look for baby Ren
We had our first swim today. Luckily it seems like pools are safe as long as we’re socially distancing and we were. It was at my grandma’s retirement place so they keep the water really warm and bub loved it.
Plus, he got to spend some time with his great grandma who isn’t doing great. Due to familial issues, this is really the only great grandchild she’s been around and she’s just absolutely in love.
