Royal Holloway Conditional Offer

Hey guys, I just received a conditional offer from Royal Holloway but am kinda concerned. The condition was that I have to obtain a score of 4 or 5 on an upcoming AP test, but I won’t receive the results till July. Am I supposed to just risk everything and wait until then? I really want to go there, but I’m from the US and most colleges here require a reply way before July.
What do I do? I made a huge mistake and didn’t really apply to any other unis that I’d really want to go to on the UCAS.

You can accept a place at a US university and put a deposit there if required. It’s a small sum compared to your education! At the same time, firm your place at Royal Holloway.

US universities understand that a small number will withdraw, hence people get removed from waitlists.

Okay that sounds good. Thanks so much!

What made you choose RH out of interest?

It was mainly the course and the prospect of having the option to go to london from time to time

I also got a conditional offer from UCL and my friend told me that I should firm that one instead even though I don’t like the course as much. Do you agree with her? I have no clue about the reputations of all the schools in the UK and I’m curious to know what you think

Be sure to read the Wikipedia article on Royal Holloway, that gives a very good idea of its reputation, famous graduates, etc.

If you are hoping to “go to London from time to time”, make sure that you have studied how easy or difficult that will be. Royal Holloway isn’t actually in Greater London, it’s in the county of Surrey. It’s actually closer to Windsor then it is to London. There seems to be a train to Waterloo station (somewhat centrally located in London). So make sure you look into how often these trains are, how late they run, whether it is different on weekends, and so on. And how much a ticket costs. (And I know there are various discount plans, season tickets and so on)

Driving to London isn’t a good idea, because driving is a real pain in London.

KEVP

UCL is MILES better then Royal Holloway. UCL is top five in the UK, Royal Holloway is maybe top 30 at a push.

Thanks! I’m firming it then

Glad to help. However, if you really despise the UCL course then choose Royal Holloway, if you’re not too bothered about prestige. Just to make things clear, UCL is maybe similar to Princeton IN THE UK! (before anyone calls me out on this) and Royal Holloway, is just like another mid tier US university, can’t think of one of the top of my head.
