@kraxis, that puts up a good point. I found a link (above) for last year’s participants and what states they were from - it’s a press release, just scroll all the way to the bottom and there’s a chart thing. One person from Georgia last year.

AND NOBODY FROM MY STATE!!! I may have a hook…

Regarding geographic advantage/disadvantage, it’s true that RSI tries to achieve some geographic diversity, but that will not stop them from choosing multiple people from a state if those people deserve to be selected. For example, if you look at the [list[/url] WeIsCool posted, you’ll see that 2 people were selected from Kentucky, which is a relatively small state. At the same time, it’s not guaranteed that they’ll choose a person from every state - 35 states were represented in RSI 2012, and even some mid-sized states (like Missouri) were not represented at all.

Are you guys using left justification or full justification for the essays? When I did presentations for research, my mentor told me to use full justification. But it looks weird when I do it on the essays.

Are you guys single-spacing or double? And I got my transcript and scores from my school and intend on sending it all together. Is that a big deal if it isn’t sent from my school?

Sorry for the triple post, but I emailed RSI and in case anyone is wondering it is okay to send in your transcript yourself if you didn’t have your school send it. Also, they said it is okay to print out the achievements list and mail it in and that it isn’t uploaded.

If you see this, I need an email from you. I’ve read your essay responses and left comments in a Word document so I’ll just attach that in an email.

My mom is at the post office right now mailing my application!!! I probably should have had somebody read over my essays before I sent it in… oh well. My parents have a twisted sense of English sometimes.

@LuoSciOly I am so going to creep on what you guys did last year. Also, is it pretty much expected that you need to bring your own laptop? I am guessing so.

@nkrish I used left justification. It’s nothing super formal or anything, it’s just an essay that CEE will read and then throw away after they have decided your fate… And I hate full justification.

@cheerioswithmilk: That’s good, because that’s what I did :D

@Agrasin, yeah, my school just got Science Olympiad last year, and it is our first science competition… State it somewhere in your essays maybe that your school doesn’t have any of that. I doubt that you “need” it - I’ve heard of plenty of applicants who had little to no experience with that. I’ve never had any experience either, if it makes you feel better… maybe not, since I have very slim chances of getting in :D

Hi guys,
I had a quick question regarding the actual online application, as whenever I click onto on of the classes on the RSI app it doesnt let me unclick it, it just remains bubbled in and I cant get it to leave. Any advice?

No, you’re stuck once you bubble something in – I’ve tried many times to uncheck something, it just doesn’t seem to work. In other news, I finally finished up my half of the application. Printed out unofficial score reports, an unofficial transcript, Parts I,II, and V, and my essays. Just need transcripts and waiting on 1 more letter of recommendation, which according to my math teacher, is done.

What browser are you using? In chrome and firefox, if you right click and select Inspect Element, you should be able to access the underlying code and change it from there. I had to fiddle around a bit, but if you screw up, just refresh the page.
