Rsi 2013

@randomjason I did the same thing as WeIsCool, but it’s fine if you don’t have any more time.

1 mentor and 1 teacher rec are definitely okay, Ms. Maite said so herself:

2 letters are fine, one math or science and a researcher. Please absolutely no more than 3.
Best,
Maite

Though I don’t know the benefits to be had either way. @luoscioly?

Did any of you sent your application in by Overnight package last year? Does doing it look bad? My son is still waiting for his teacher’s recommedation letters. His school starts tomorrow which is the deadline he gave to his teachers when he asked them before the break.

@kraxis: Regarding margins, it’s a judgment call that only you can make. Is the extra content worth the potential decrease in professionalism? I would try to cut some to make the margins closer to one inch, but I wouldn’t sweat it if you absolutely can’t.
Regarding recommendations, you should choose the people who will write the most effusive and superlative things about you. Do not choose someone for their impressive title or just because they’re a professor or whatever. The recommendation that will shed the best light on you is the one that will provide concrete and superlative examples of how awesome you are.

@4beardolls: As long as they arrive at the CEE office by the deadline, you’re fine.

how far back can your accomplishments be from? Is 8th grade ok?

Im assuming 8th grade achievements are fine as long as they are significant and show a “penchant for science.”

I know it may sound irritating at this point, but is .85 inch margins reasonable; I dont think I want to delete anything else.

I have a question on what I actually need to submit in my mailed application–there seems to be contradictory information, or at least vague information on the website.
In my mailed application, I’m planning on including:
My personal information (also, can anyone tell me how to download this? There’s no PDF of my personal information, only the web page that I’m supposed to fill out online)
2 recommendations
My essays
A list of my achievements
My release forms
An unofficial transcript

If my school sent my AP,PSAT,SAT scores and official transcript, do I still need to send them in my application?

@eli729: Yes, there are problems with the wording and instructions. I think you have everything you need (remember to include the check if you aren’t paying online or requesting a fee waiver.) I’m not sure on the score thing, but I think you wouldn’t have to include them.

And last night, I had a dream I got rejected from RSI… I received a letter in the mail, opened it, and saw a big red box that said something along the lines of “Sorry, you were rejected from RSI.” It was not the greatest feeling.

So I just found out my school somehow doesn’t have copies of my test scores…-_-
Can I give them a printout of my online report to send?
It’s completely unofficial, but I can’t think of a way to get an official score report at this point…

@purplelight: Have your counselor sign it and write an email/accompanying letter, and just include it in your application. That’s what I did for PSATs, which our school just returned today.

^ I just copied my own personal “student” copies, gave them to my counselor and had her seal them with my transcript. She signed the envelope and the transcript, so I’m guessing that would be fine too

I did the same thing for my test scores. Also, is it ok to change our field once we submitted the online form? Can we edit our submission, like it says we can or is that bad?

Has anyone not submitted the application? Today is first day back to school for my son and both of his teachers did not give him the recommendation letter they promised before the break. Realizing they are late, both said they will bring the letter tomorrow. I am worried.

Er…on the topic of test scores and transcripts…when the application says “school should send certified transcript and test scores,” does that mean that the school needs to mail in a separate envelope with the documents, or can I just include the envelope along with the rest of my application?

@4beardolls: I would recommend mailing the application with a guaranteed overnight parcel service (USPS Express Mail or FedEx Express). If you do so at least 2 days in advance (giving them an extra buffer day), there’s not much need to worry.

@ojeshsh: Either is fine, but I would recommend the latter option (sending all the envelopes in a larger envelope along with the rest of your application).

LuoSciOly, thank you for your suggestion.

Are AP scores required to be sent in the application ? Please let me know.

@numbersense: They tell you to send in the standardized test scores. I’m not sure you are “required” to send AP test scores; I don’t think they are a big part of the application process so you might as well.

Btw, how many words do most people have on their essays?

that probably means that the teachers don’t like him. O_O my teachers were exhilarated to write recs for me.

sigh…I shouldn’t have procrastinated so much on my essays…
