Rsi 2013

sent in my app today! almost didnt find the applicant release form though…

all that stress is gone since i now have 1 week to finish my mites application :D

I’ve got a little over 2000 words; I don’t really know how reasonable this is, but a bulk of this came from the programming essay (I <3 programming).

What specific info are you guys putting down for the list of awards? For example: date received? How many years involved in the activity? Etc.

Sent an overnight parcel starting now for all applicants. It only costs 19$ at the US post office.

Good luck everyone! (: I’ll start a new thread on what research topics people picked

Ya, involvement in activity, leadership… I included some of my science fair/internship information as well.

I didn’t have date received; is it that important?

@LuoSciOly Thanks for your help!

@prototyped YES overnight! :)

Did you guys get your parent/guardian to sign EVERY paper? Including essays and resume? I signed every page for formality.

I’m really stressed out about this now…XD I go to an online school and so all the official transcripts/recs have to be MAILED to me. I have one letter but the other letter is from my science teacher who hasn’t done it yet even though I’ve been nagging her since break…aah. I’m definitely going to have to overnight it and I don’t even know if it’ll be there in time. This was my first time doing any sort of application like this, so I guess I’ll learn for next time!

How much would being from a state which has not been represented at RSI for over 10 years help my application? How much is geographic location taken into account?

Is Ms. Maite the person who makes decisions? How is the decision making done?

Do parents have to sign every paper ? @nkrish

@StudiousMan14: RSI tries to achieve geographic diversity, but it is not an overriding factor.

@numbersense: Selection is done by a committee. Description taken from the CEE newsletter: The RSI Selection Committee, comprised of distinguished STEM professionals, meets at CEE in mid-February to select students chosen for academic merit, demonstrated leadership, and scientific achievement. Selection also is based on standardized test scores, high school grades, essay submissions, teacher recommendations, and demonstrated potential to become future leaders in STEM.

@numbersense: No, your parents do not have to sign anywhere except where it is explicitly indicated that they must sign.

@LuoSciOly: So basically it is of little or inconsequential value in the admissions process? Also, how do you have this information? Were you a participant?

This is a dumb question, but I heard CEE is picky about folding paper.
My teachers/school folded their rec letters and my transcript to put in envelopes.
Is that against the “no folding” rule?
I didn’t fold anything that’s not in a sealed envelope.

@purplelight I wouldn’t worry about the teacher recs/stuff from your school in envelopes about being folded. I’m sure it won’t make a difference.

@purplelight Anything in a sealed envelope is fine; the reason they don’t want it folded/stapled is so that they can feed the 4000+ applications through the scanner easily. They likely won’t be scanning anything that’s sealed, so it should be fine.
I freaked about this too, I accidentally ran over my printed essays in my rolling chair and had to print out new ones :D

beat me to it, gotgumption :)

Ahh thank you so much guys! :D

@StudiousMan14: I wouldn’t say that the value is “inconsequential,” but I wouldn’t count on it advantaging or disadvantaging you immensely either. I cannot give you a more precise/definite answer because I am not on the selection committee. I am an RSI 2012 participant.

@purplelight: As others have said, don’t worry about transcripts or recommendations being folded.

Sent overnight today! So glad I finished!
