Rsi 2013

“in the next week” is what she said exactly. … I hope they don’t really receive 3000+ applications???

No, 3000 applicants are way too much. I am pretty sure there were 950 U.S. applicants for RSI 2007. Even regarding the possible increase in apps, 3000 sounds way too much. Maybe 1200?

look it up. i’m sure that ~75/3000 are chosen, at least in 2012. how else would the acceptance rate be so low. of those, 50 are from the US and 25 international. all the more reason to be proud, toughman!

Haha :slight_smile: But where did you find the 3000 thing?

Ok so I got a response for Maite and she said “We will send out e-mails next week.”

YIKES!

I’m thinking maybe they’ll email us on 3/14 cause that’s Pi Day, the same day regular decision college results come out from MIT.

3/14, really? I hope not… AIME is that day, and I don’t wanna take it when I’m already depressed lol.

@covertcognomen

Have the best of luck with AIME! :)

fingers crossed, though of course it is extremely selective. If I recall from last year’s posts, getting notified later rather than sooner meant your decision was more likely to be ‘accepted.’ Also, as/when people receive notifications can we post fields applied for? I had the funny feeling that there were NO compSci acceptees (on CC), which of course was my primary subject…

@kraxis

I will be conducting research in the field of EECS. However my preferred research topic is extremely different than computer science, lol.

@ toughman, what does that mean ? Have you already been assigned a field ? What was your primary research area ? Thanks.

@numbersense

I have not received any information other than acceptance from CEE yet. But, I think they’ll assign me the field I indicated on the application. Isn’t this generally the case?

They said I will be receiving more information later (I think this info will be about the lab I will be working at, etc.). My primary research area was Electrical Engineering. And you are welcome.

@toughman: Just curious, how were your essays distributed? I wrote over a page for question 3, but I know others on this forum who placed more emphasis on the programming or EC questions. The topics I wrote about were exactly what I’d been researching for some time, which is why I had so much to write. Any post-application thoughts hehe? Thanks

@kraxis
If question 3 was about explaining research fields, yeah, I placed the most emphasis on it. It was like 1.5 pages (I did quite similar to you, explaining my current and prior research). And I literally answered the programming question with a short paragraph, although I knew programming. :)

My school gave us our PSAT results ridiculously late. I got >235. Do you guys think that I should send in an update to CEE? I also got a 2400 on the SAT and 800 on the Math II, both of which I sent. I didn’t send in my APs though, out of laziness (had lost the paper).

I’m not sure how much these standardized tests actually matter in the decision process …

@leatherlibrarian

Standardized tests do matter; I read somewhere that they generally preferred applicants in the upper percentile. Congrats on your 2400! If you already sent your 2400, they would not care much about your PSAT.

And, decisions were already made and they will most probably be e-mailing them on pi day.

Toughman, I am curious, what did you make on your PSAT/SAT?

Man, I competed at various international science fairs, but my SAT scores are dirt low, like barely above 2000s…!

Why pi day, besides the fact that it is pi day? After all, MIT and CEE are entirely different entities, and just because MIT is emailing their college acceptance out that day, doesn’t mean CEE will, too.

toughman, did they actually tell you decisions were made? Because I thought RSI for internationals and CEE were separate entities…
I take it we’ve confirmed that decisions will come out next week?

Please do not ask Toughman his PSAT and SAT scores, I believe that’s his private matter. People do have many aspects for RSI to evaluate them, not to mention when it comes to assess the qualifications of international students.
