Rsi 2013

@kraxis, yes they will definitely mail out results next week. I asked Maite 2 days ago and she said they will next week for sure.

Thanks for the confirmation - did she mention whether it would be via email or just regular post?

Last year I’m pretty sure everyone got emailed, and accepted people also got physical mail.

@terminatorp
I didn’t take the PSAT. My country has its own placement exam, which functions almost the same as PSAT. I achieved the top percentile in each section.
@WeIsCool
Not exactly. CEE and MIT are actually close. What’s more, MIT admissions people are involved in selecting Rickoids. [MITE2S, RSI, and more | MIT Admissions](MITE2S, RSI, and more | MIT Admissions)

@kraxis
I do not know anything further than my acceptance. However, I do know that an admissions committee gathers in mid-february. That’s why I’m sure they have already made their decisions.

You will all be getting your decisions in 6 days, guys! Have the best of luck!

I wonder how much time elapses between final decisions and sending out the emails. Are they still deliberating? Based on the link above I would guess so.

I don’t even know why I’m wasting time thinking about this at this point though, as I’m from the most competitive state and personally know many, many people from my region alone who are far more impressive than me. Sigh.

@megalomaniac7

I believe, though I’m not sure, they are making placements, negotiating with relevant professors/mentors about the selected students’ fields. They want to guarantee that the student will have an assigned mentor. That is why I guess they are sending decisions later than mid-february.

@kraxis - You’ve got me worried. They didn’t accept anyone who applied for Comp Sci? Any clue about astrophysics (my first choice)?
Also, that link is from 2005, so I don’t think the decisions are necessarily coming out in 6 days.

Ok so on March 6th, Maite said they will send out emails ā€œnext week.ā€ I wish they would tell us which day, cause I know I’ll be panicking every single day next week.

@rdcolina
Based on what I could tell from the past few years’ threads, there wasn’t a single ā€œacceptedā€ post where the field was compsci. The vast majority (of CC acceptees) seem to be math, bio, or physics. my 1st was compsci and 2nd math, so I’m really hoping field choice doesn’t have a huge effect on decisions.

^I know 5 kids who have gotten in for comp sci. Don’t worry about it.

@kraxis
Field choice obviously has an effect on decisions, they probably don’t want all 80 attendees doing biology. But do not worry about not getting in because compsci was your first choice. As you can see at this link, [RSI 2011 > Advice > Examples](http://web.mit.edu/rsi/www/2011/advice/examples/), there have definitely been computer science projects in the past and I think they try to have a diverse group of research interests.

So at what stages are you guys at? Confident/hopeless/chill/panicking/impatient/etc?

If I get in, I’ll be happy, but it won’t be the end of the world, I’ve alternate plans for the summer, mathcamp and hopefully MOP or SPARC (guess what field I applied for). I suppose impatient best describes how I feel, I just want to find out so I can move on with life.

thanks for the clarification, everyone. I was definitely happy to see that they even have a ā€œcomputer scienceā€ section for the representative papers.

I’d say I’m at the ā€˜impatient/anxious’ stage.

I’m at the doubtful/anxious stage. I don’t expect to get in but I can always wish. I just want to get it over with and start to hope about other things.

Doubtful/anxious stage for sure. Thanks for telling me about the joint decisions, by the way - I wasn’t aware of that at all. :D

How do you all cope with rejections? I don’t deal with them well at all. I’ll be very, very crushed if I don’t get in, so I need to start accepting that I won’t get in now. I do have another internship if I don’t get in, but nothing comparable to what RSI is.

Right now I think I’ll cope with my probable rejection by rejoicing with the fact that I’ll be sciencing some way or another. Today I was massing stuff for this bioengineering project I’m doing at my local university and since it was such menial work, I had a lot of time to think about what I want to do with life and I’m just glad that even if I don’t end up getting to RSI, I’ll at least have science.

I guess I’m getting all sappy and cheesy but after massing stuff for over two hours, my brain just starts getting all meaning-of-life-ish.

So I’m at the AHHHHHHH-science!/happy stage.

Any guesses on when the results will come out? I’m thinking Thursday/Friday. I think it was a Thursday last year.

I have a feeling it’s a straight up rejection letter. Since my GPA and SAT I aren’t perfect. Other than that all my resume and college classes look very good… My state sent 1 person last year and I happen to know him too… Hm my guess is 3/14 just because it’s Pi day and people say Mai said next week… Good luck everyone! After rejection, I pray for MITES, SIMR or SSP
