@taek1230 one or two, not all of them. Quality, not quantity matters more though.
@OleColtrane Hey! what do you think is more valuable to admissions people @ CEE:
this kid:
all A’s, all challenging courses (AP), great recs, sufficient essays but commonplace applicant experiences, obvi science passion, near perfect scores, BUT NO RESEARCH EXPERIENCE, NO STATISTICAL ANALYSIS SOFTWARE EXPERIENCE, AND FEW AWARDS
or
this kid:
B and C student, still takes all challenging courses (AP), great recs from research mentors, amazing essays and unique student experiences, obvi science passion, okay scores, BUT A LOT OF WORTHY RESEARCH EXPERIENCE, PATENTS, HELLA STATISTICAL SOFTWARE EXPERIENCE, AND NOTEWORTHY AWARDS LIKE ISEF
Many applicants will have both. And lots of them will still be rejected.
damn that’s tough, still somethings gotta give… can’t be perfect in this sense and still get rejected
As mentioned earlier, it is a 3% admit rate among some very strong applicants.
And there is also a regional soft quota. For example, California gets ~5-6 kids out of 50 US kids to reflect their relative population. California has many strong students, but they are all competing for those limited slots.
@qubitqween I can’t say because there are so many other factors that would determine which person gets in (if any). What @hebegebe said is correct; it’s not just about qualifications, and there are other considerations such as region that play a role too. I don’t know what RSI considers as highly valuable in an applicant beyond a demonstrated passion/commitment to STEM because I don’t know anything about the review process, so it’s impossible for me to say which person would be more valuable to admissions.
Does mostly everyone who gets into RSI have a notable/major award(USAMO/ISEF)? What percentage of the students there last year had a notable award?
Does anyone know when RSI decisions get released?
And what are some other STEM research programs similar to RSI that are worth applying to?
SSP
Hi!
I submitted RSI. When will I know the result?
What are other research camp like RSI?
Just came across this informational article (https://www.forbes.com/sites/kristenmoon/2019/01/02/what-does-it-take-to-get-into-the-ultra-competitive-research-science-institute-rsi) about RSI program. Wish saw it much earlier.
Here’s the app I found of someone who was accepted^
@olecoltrane is the final presentation (spoken) stressful? also can you look through the all the stats and give up your opinion?
@qubitqween Just to be clear, that person did not get into the program. If you check the history of attendees of RSI, that person’s name does not show up as one of the attendees.
Oh thank god, I hope I wasn’t the only one who thought that those essays were a bit on the short side
We want to see update for the application that we submitted. Do you have their email address?
Does anyone know if CEE cares about race or ethnicity?
@mathisfun888 nope, its merit-based
Hey all, I know this is really really late, but one of my mentors just reached out to tell me that he has been sick in the hospital for a few weeks, and so he wasn’t able to complete the recommendation then. If he submits it now/really soon, what are the chances that RSI will still read it?
You should try it and let the mentor explain what happened. Find their email.
