Rural Blues: Do I need to be in the city?

I will be attending Ithaca this fall for BA Theatre studies and although I am aware and excited about the top-notch training Ithaca offers, I’m worries about location. I wanted to spend my undergrad in the city really badly, but I just couldn’t afford my city school options and chose Ithaca for their program. Will I be at a disadvantage for job opportunities compared to students from schools in Boston/New York? Does anyone have any success/failure stories about going to theatre school in the middle of nowhere? I’m looking into transfer options but most schools give very little merit aid to transfers so it probably won’t be an option.

Ithaca has a pretty extensive alumni list who are successful in the industry. It’s supposed to be a really great program. I wouldn’t worry so much about the location since the program is so good, well-known, and respected. Focus more on embracing the program and fellow students. You haven’t even started yet and you’re already worried about transferring. RELAX! Take advantage of everything Ithaca has to offer. There are so many kids who would trade places with you in a heartbeat. My daughter has 2 friends who got rejected from the program and Ithaca was their first choice.

Don’t worry about it. You will get to the city eventually. Probably soon after you graduate from Ithaca. While you are at Ithaca, you need to concentrate on becoming absolutely incredible, so that when you do make it to the city, all the city folks will be saying “Hey, where did this guy come from!”.
