Did Honors Program and Honors Academy come out the same day as Honors College? Also, for those in Honors Program or SOE Honors Academy, did it say that on the portal or did you just get something in the mail?
Has anyone received there scholarships info yet? my son has been accepted into the honors college for both arts & sciences & engineering. he will most likely go for arts & sciences since he planning on majoring in computer science. We are boos. he did get a good scholarship ( Rutgers trustee & Henry Rutgers) totaling $ 19,000 pr yr. I wanted to know what does it take to get presidential (the top scholarships)? Also my son has advanced to national merit finalist & wondering if they give more for that? my son did receive free tuition to stony brook that is a possibility too. thanks
National Merit Finalists can receive extra scholarship money from participating universities. I think $500-$2000. However, some universities, such as Arizona State will offer full tuition, etc. congratulations to your son!! RUTGERS rarely gives out merit scholarships and when they do, it’s usually to the Honors College students. My son received the same scholarship as your son. I know someone who was offered a full scholarship but he was a valedictorian
@lovemycats -your son and my son are similar-both accepted to SAS and SOE and same amount of merit aid, and both plan to major in computer science through SAS. My son’s SAT was 1550, and his high school does not rank student, but it is a highly competitive career academy. My son said that if he designates Rutgers for national merit scholarship, he will receive another $2,000. I have not checked that. Would definitely choose Rutgers over Stony Broo for Computer Science.
My son will be attending the School of Engineering. He also wants to be close to home so he will be going to Rutgers debt free. Also, the Honors College, from my impression will support its students in terms of research and internships. We have been to several Open Houses and it appears that these students have full support to pursue their goals. Also, the Honors College supports global travel
thanks. I know they are listed on NM for receiving $ but doesn’t have amount stated & I know varies by school. I couldn’t find amount on website. Is your son instate or OOS/. We are OOS (ny, so not far). which school is he considering? SOE offered slightly different amount & is more to go to (I didn’t know that before, but seems to be common) & in the end would be $3000 more.
@lovemycats Many people from my school get the Presidential Scholarship. 1/4-1/2 of my school got the presidential, including myself. Our school is not ranked, but is one of the best in the state. We usually have high sats and high gpas as well
Im guessing. you are instate? I am OOS. Not many apply to Rutgers (li,ny). We also do not rank. but do know my son is in the top 10%. Just wondering what GPA & SATs get that award?
@lovemycats My friends and I who got the award had a 94-99 unweighted GPA and a 1530-1570 SAT score/34-36 ACT score. We got presidential at every school within NB. Everyone in my school also takes all honors classes/ IB classes. I’m also in state, so that probably makes it easier for us
Well every school that we applied to.
Rutgers is in-state so we save a significant amount of money. Stony Brook is also a great school. Is the cost difference significant for you? He was also accepted to University of Maryland. They offered him an $8000 scholarship which wasn’t much since the OOS tuition is approx 50k w room and board.
The stats on my son - national merit finalist, SAT 1540
the Rutgers scholarship brings it to a few thousand more then our state school. Which I know isn’t bad. If they give more for NMF will equal ny instate. The scholarship for storybook is all round the best deal for my son, free tuition just not the same social life. My son was also accepted into Maryland honors but sadly only received $5000. doesn’t make much of a dent into OOS tuition
my son is also a NMF. 1520 sats. with 12 aps and a lot of cl classes
If the cost difference isn’t significant and your son likes RUTGERS then RUTGERS is the place to be! The honors college is a great place to start and it’s a great university! My daughter goes there and loves it!
was invited to SAS Honors Program a few weeks ago, and just received an email that RBS invited me to SASHP as well! so excited
Congrats @SPA2100 …was it part of the original Early Action Application or is it Regular Decision?
Has Rutgers released Mason Gross Honors College yet? I know they are just releasing acceptances based on auditions, so I’m thinking HC wasn’t announced yet for Mason Gross since it’s audition based. Does anyone know how it works for MG students?
I got into Rutgers Honors College. Congratulations to everyone!
@Propinquity4444, I am wondering the same thing. Also wondering about merit $$ from MSGA…
