My daughter was accepted (New Brunswick) and we are in state but have not visited. Anyone know if RU does an Accepted Students Day tour/event?
Yes, they do. Typically starting March/April. Theyāll send you a packet in the mail in the next couple of weeks and thatāll have details. Theyāll follow up via email as well.
I told my kiddo who did not get to our instate University of Mass Amherst but DID get into Rutgers and a bunch of other schools it was likely because pretty much everyone from his high school applied- whether they viewed U Mass as a safety (academically or financially), a target or a reach. I am sure that is the case at most public high schools in our state. So you take the top students from his class- be it top top SAT scores, and top top GPAs with rigor etc., unique scenarios like musicians, athletes etc. It would be hard for U Mass to admit more than the top 10%. And because itās a strong school and financially lower cost than other schools they have no problem filling their class with a ton of instate students. I would guess its the same with Rutgers.
My kiddo is being compared apples to apples to his classmates. So a 3.8 really IS equivalent to another kids 3.8. When he applies out of state, his 3.8 is NOT the same as someone elseās 3.8 so they dive into the file more, and for out of state kids get a more balanced application review.
If you are in state, that is my guess, just so many people from your high school applied- and b/c Rutgers jumped so much in the rankings everyone applied so they basically skimmed off the top. If you are looking at your 3.8 to someone elseās 3.8 on this board it is only equivalent if you are at the same school. I would guess you were measured against your own classmates (and probably specifically against other kids who wanted CS) which is kind of objective- and super frustrating, trust me we know- no U Mass Amherst here, sigh.
We went to a bus tour (Thatās what it was called). We went back in November, but they also have self-guided tours via their app. Then thereās a map where you can guide yourself around campus. We are out of state and we were very impressed with the campus and the in-depth tour they gave. It was my daughterās number one choice and last night we found out she was accepted to the school of arts and sciences in New Brunswick. We are over the moon and are actually going back for a self guided tour in a few months just to get a little bit more acclimated with the campus.
Congratulations to your daughter.
You may want to take an admitted students tour instead of a self guided one.
We definitely will go to that as well. Weāre only about an hour away. Thank you for the advice. Much appreciated.
Congrats. Suggest you go on a Friday /Saturday and walk college ave and have dinner in NB.
Some great places to eat in New Brunswick!
I agree with your take! My son got into UMASS Amherst with merit aid, but got waitlisted at Rutgers, where are in-state. Itās just frustrating because the OOS merit aid (which heās gotten a few other places as well) is very nice, but doesnāt lower the tuition to Rutgersās in-state cost (not by far!). But, oh well. He doesnāt seem crushed and I may just take it as a sign itās not meant to be. Although I havenāt figured out the money piece yet. But I know it could be crushing for families who were counting on Rutgers in-state and donāt have other options. I keep thinking colleges should attempt something like the Irish voting system of ranking preferences (something I know next to nothing about!)
Not meant to be is exactly what I told my son.
My son OOS son got into RBS and we are thrilled. We would like to visit the campus before making a decision. When is the admitted student day for NB campus?
Iām an OOS student who applied to RBS and got waitlisted :// Not losing hope just yet since I know the competition was fierce this year!
Admitted student open house is April 13th. Itās buried in the Admitted student page
Super helpful - thank you, Iām marking my calendar
Son got into RBS OOS with a 4.06W GPA and no sat score
Congratulations!
When did you get the decision? (Trying to figure out if decisions are still rolling out or they all went out on Wednesday)
Hello, I have a question, admitted in SAS, we are still waiting for other universities. If we enroll now, does it mean we accept it? Thanks in advance
Yes
There is no need to accept now.
Thanks. I am wondering why on campus housing signup starts in February, there is placement test in March, if we donāt enroll how can we sign up?
