I’m currently a sophomore here in the USA, living in NJ, I started out studying pre-med in CC where I came out with a 3.3 gpa and transferred to a school in southern California… Needless to say, I didn’t do my research before going to that school and ended up really miserable there and put myself in financial strain, so I had to move back to NJ and take the spring semester off. I graduated HS a year early so taking a semester off still leaves me a semester ahead in my UG studies. It kind of shows in my grades how much I struggled in that school, my fall 2015 semester set me back to a 3.0 GPA (I took one winter class and came out with an A in that class, however).
I started out studying pre-med, majoring in psych, and made the decision to switch to pre-law last semester. I want to transfer to Ryerson for Business. The only problem is, I haven’t taken a business class yet, however I’ve completed nearly all of my general ed courses (I might need one or two when I transfer, just depends on the university’s standards).
Would not having taken any business classes hurt me? Is my GPA suited for an easier transfer into their Business program, or should I consider applying to their English program instead? I’m really interested in studying business, it’s something I enjoy learning about and it will help me in the field of law I want to go into, however I don’t mind an English degree either.
My stats are:
3.0 GPA (keep in mind all my courses were really difficult premed courses… chem, bio, calc)
AP Credit
1700 SAT (if this applies? I think I’m well out of the HS zone as I have sophomore standing)
I have a lot of volunteering experience, especially with taking this semester off I’m focusing on volunteering and interning. I don’t know if this will help me as I read that Canadian schools really focus on numbers. I also worked two jobs while in school in California, one job while in school in NJ.
I’m really interested in studying in Toronto. I really like Ryerson’s campus and I have some friends that go there and they’ve told me all good things about it, I even mentioned it to some of my friends who live in Toronto but don’t go to Ryerson and they consider Ryerson to be a great university. I was also looking at applying to U of T, but their applications are closed and I don’t really want to take more time off of school.
