We need ellebud… she has the worst MIL stories I have ever heard. My MIL (ex-MIL now) used always say, “I just want EVERYONE to be HAPPY”. Usually when there was some kind of squabble going on, typically when her daughter (my ex-SIL) was behaving horribly. If she really wanted everyone to be happy, maybe she should have not raised a mean girl who was awful to everyone else in the family and any in-law spouses as well.

To sister-in-law above when sister-in-law’s mother died: It can’t be as hard for you because you only knew her 38 years; I had known my mother 93 years when she died and the grief was worse.

My poor SIL has a rotten MIL who once told me, “I never thought _____ would marry someone like her. I thought he’d choose someone more petite like me.”

I love you guys! I just changed my facebook profile picture to the Little Mermaid with a fork in her hair…“It’s a dinglehopper!” I only wish I could be at Sunday dinner and pull the same stunt in person, because apparently my sainted mother didn’t teach me how to use a fork.

Tpt, yours takes the cake and I do think she is losing it.

I never knew my MIL before Alzheimer’s set in when she was 49. She thought I was perfect. She had no idea I was married to her son. Maybe that was a good thing.

I swear to God I saw the title to this thread…and I win. (She was also a rotten mother…what a surprise.)

First, let it be said that my mil is dying of bladder cancer. I can’t believe that I am saying this but I don’t care.

The last time I called her (I called because she lives in my bil guest house. She is blind so no tv or social activities and I believed that my conscience would feel better AND I was teaching my adult children how to behave and suck it up.) my mother in law called me (after I said hello…how are you?) “a conniving kike.” (i was amazed by the way that she knew the word conniving.)

One evening we received a phone call from bil’s home security monitors. The alarms were going off inside the house, do we want security to come out. (Freakishly I wondered why we were on their call list.) I said that I would try and get hold of them. Called the two cells (nope) called the house…they weren/t there. I had visions of my mil sitting alone with people (person) seeing mil and hurting her. Finally I said…send over your service. BUT WAIT!!!..their service just calls LAPD. Well, they showed up and gently said hi to mil…and began asking questions. The questions weren’t about a robbery (seems that they couldn’t afford to fix their service) but elder abuse…And then she called and screamed at me for interfering.

BUT WAIT…she informed me that when I got breast cancer they were happy! Thought that I would die and leave them alone.

BUT WAIT: She informed my husband that they wanted to disinherit my husband for marrying me…ruining the family with a Jew AND Jewish grandchildren. My fil was born a Jew…

I have been diagnosed with something…new…My husband is under strict orders not to say a word.

But WAIT…I was given to job of putting on dvd discs the v8 movies of my husband’s childhood…I had to view the first batch before my husband did. I wanted my husband and children not to see or hear something untoward…I did…

The ignorance and cruelty of some people is just unbelievable. I am sorry, tptshorty and ellebud, that your MILs have said such ugly, undeserved things to you. Sorry to hear about your medical struggles, as well.

My MIL has said some clueless, hurtful things in her time, but not because she realized she’d be hurting me by saying them (I don’t think, anyway). Nothing like what you ladies have experienced. There was the time she said, to my daughter in front of a room full of people: “You’re so beautiful. You can’t take after your mother!” (She probably hasn’t put two and two together, but that was the last time we’ve ever stayed overnight in her home.)
