“…Carter, who is 90, was the 39th president of the United States and the nation’s second-oldest living president.”
90 years old. He is a very good man. I wish him the best.
Would have been a better, perhaps a very good, President had he had a second term. Keen intellect and an ability to see and comprehend the world around him.
sorry to hear this. I hope he’s not suffering.
So sad that the cancer has already spread from his liver. I suspect he’s in excellent health for someone 90 years of age, from observing how active he’s been in his later years, but metastatic liver cancer is just, not good.
I am sorry to hear this, as I would about anyone. I can probably list a bunch of faults he had has president, but the one thing I never doubted with him, as I do with so many these days, is that he cared about the country and cared a lot more about that then keeping himself in power, he was a throwback to a different era.
I can only hope he can live out whatever time he has with dignity and grace, he deserves it.
He wrote in some of his books that his members of his family died young like in the 50s. The fact that he outlived by significant numbers is amazing.
All the best to him and his family during this tough time. I am glad they are at least trying to treat it, some doctors write off people who are over 75. Atlanta has excellent health care at least.
Yes, I believe that Brother Bill and a sister died relatively young at middle age. Although mother Miss Lillian lived a long life.
I believe both his sister and brother died of pancreatic cancer, which is probably the most vicious of all cancers, in part because it is relatively symptomless until it is very well advanced (it is what killed Steve Jobs).
He is a true humanitarian in my book. My sister and her family met him and Roslyn a few years ago when they visited GA when they attended a service in their church. The couple had stopped to say hello to their two toddlers who were in the childcare during the service.
My cousin, an ordained minister, used to attend Pres. Carter’s Sunday school class, which he taught for many years after he left the presidency. If anyone were ever to look for a man who truly lived his faith, look no further.
He certainly had a dignified “second act” after the Presidency.
The Carter Center in Atlanta has done a tremendous job in the area of global health. Really a well-run institution and a model for retired presidents using their experience for good.
It’s also what killed Randy Pausch, of the Last Lecture fame.
Actually, I think three (all three?) of Jimmy Carter’s siblings died of pancreatic cancer - Billy, Ruth, and Gloria. Talk about a scary family history.
Jimmy Carter is one of my heroes.
I’m sorry to hear this. Jimmy Carter is a good man and very inspirational.
Very sorry to hear this. I met both him & Rosalynn at a function at U of Chicago when I was in graduate school. Lovely people.
I’m so sorry to hear this. I agree with the comments posted here.
Met him at a forum during the last year of his presidency. The broad smile and devotion to public affairs was genuine.
