Sad news for those of us who are fans of the Harry Potter movies - Alan Rickman “Severus Snape” has passed away at age 69.
"When I’m 80 years old and sitting in my rocking chair, I’ll be reading Harry Potter. And my family will say to me, ‘After all this time?’ And I will say, ‘Always.’ - Alan Rickman.
My kids and I have been texting quotes and photos of Snape all morning. For them, he is a legend!
Hard to believe that the first Harry Potter movie came out more than 14 years ago. I wouldn’t have guessed thart Alan Rickman was 69 years old.
He was so good in "“Love Actually” and “Sense and Sensibility,” too. Loved his voice…
I also liked his very distinct voice.
I loved him as Professor Snape, but also as Hans Gruber in Diehard!
@scout59, those are my favorites, too. And I remember the first time I saw him in that delightfully smarmy turn in Robin Hood. :(. He wasn’t really classically handsome, but what a great voice.
Just saw this on the news and my heart dropped. Love, Actually is one of my favorite movies and I will forever feel a tinge of sadness watching it. It had gotten sad when Liam Niesens wife died and the scene mirroring that.
Aw. Another notable loss.
Alan Rickman in Sense and Sensibility = Major Lifetime Crush. Best speaking voice ever.
It probably says something about me that Alan Rickman’s death upsets me more than David Bowie’s.
Just adored Alan Rickman.
Too sad. Even for those of us who have never ever seen a Harry Potter movie. I fell in love with that voice years ago and LOVED him in Truly Madly Deeply and Galaxy Quest.
Yes…the voice!! I can’t read anything about the man without hearing his voice in my head. So sad. Such a great loss.
@missypie I also adored Alan Rickman, and I’m glad to know I’m not the only one more saddened by his death than David Bowie’s. And @musicamusica I also loved him in Truly, Madly, Deeply–wonderful voice, wonderful actor. Such a terrible loss.
musicamusica, I agree that Rickman was simply delicious in Truly Madly Deeply.
An excellent Colonel Brandon.
I, too, am more touched by Rickman’s death than Bowie’s. Cancer takes too many people too young.
While I have never seen him in the Harry Potter movies, I loved him in everything I saw him in. His voice was wonderful. So sad.
So terribly sad!
Alan’s “goodbye to his Snape role” in Empire Magazine - precious:
