Sad to see DD prep high school didn't make the Forbes top 20 prep school!

^ I consider Grant rural and their enrollment has got to be close to 3000. NU has what 3700 students yet loses to Grant in football every year, waz up with that? Fresno high, Bakersfield, Visalia, these are all huge (rural) california high schools and sadly they all have big meth problems.

right it’s not regional…what’s up with everyones thinking on this thread?

pacheight-You do not articulate your arguments well; in fact you do not back anything that you state with any facts, studies, statistics, etc. You just seem to make generalizations without giving any reasons for your statements. Your background info is important only because you easily toss statements out without any basis. You twist what other posters say, but refuse to justify any of your statements. You are not making any kind of constructive criticisms but only being “trollish” and trying to start arguments.
I don’t understand why you are bothering to post and what you are trying to accomplish. You don’t seem to know what you are talking about when it comes to BFA degrees in theater, acting, MT, etc. Do you have any experience in this area that qualifies you to comment and if so what is it???

Are you talking about Grant HS in Sac? You can “consider” it to be rural all you want, but here is the actual fact, if you’re interested: it’s located in a densely populated residential section of a fairly large CITY. And Fresno’s population is more than half a million – hardly a couple of farmhouses and a fruit stand. I think you need to favor us with your definition of the word “rural.”

Re IB: I guess you missed the part of my post where I talked about the fact that IB is a non-presence in large swaths of the US.

And I’m waiting with bated breath to hear your theater credentials.

^I would agree that Sacramento and Fresno are hardly rural.

and on this advising kids subject, which I believe is important. a poster above has said she doesn’t know anything about the “profession” of acting having never done it (or engineering, etc) yet is advising parents and kids on where they should go to school for these professions. Does that seem right? Should these forums sanction that?

I have a kid who’s an athlete, when deciding what colleges she should attend for her sport we consulted athletes and coaches in her sport. Seems rational, right? Shouldn’t you do the same for acting or law or architecture?

A college counselor may be able to study the results and scores of licensed professions such as medicine or law, but for acting (a trade) it’s much more subjective. So what basis does a non acting professional have to recommend a theater program/college to a kid and their parents?

Sacramento is as rural as they come and so is fresno, etc…please

Define “rural.”

i suppose nevada union with a 3700+ student body is in a big sophisticated city like sac as well:) Grant is essentially a rural attitude school. Fresno, bakersfield, etc are classic examples of rural california as well, yet with 10’s of thousands of people

LOL nice try. Here’s the actual definition:

Sacramento and Fresno are cities. So sorry that they happen to be able to produce good football teams.

And somehow, you keep forgetting to answer my question about your theater qualifications.

pacheight- You just ignore any post that you don’t want to (or can’t) answer (post #543). And I’m in SoCal and absolutely would not consider Sacramento rural.

Maybe you are bitter towards BFA and BA acting and theater programs because you could not get into one??? That is the only reason that I can think of that would make you so bitter.

More inaccuracies:

Fact: Enrollment is 2700

Facts:
Fresno: 505,479
Bakersfield: 338,952

takeitallin, maybe pacheight is bitter, but I’m inclined to agree with your previous assessment: ■■■■■.

sorry lasma no one really thinks of sac as a city where i live, here in the city:)

i do think grant produces good ball players, it’s no de lasalle but it’s good. and fresno , bakersfield, visalia, even tahoe has big high schools, all of these places are rural. geez fesno, it’s more rural in attitude that what kansas:)

but I’d like to know if you would go to someone who’s never worked in a profession and ask them where you should go to learn that profession?

Please give a direct answer to this: Define “rural.” (N.B.: Using the word repeatedly in your post is not a definition.)

nope, i have no interest in high school football or grant. Although I know some people in loomis who are very proud of them.

you can think of yourself as sophisticated, but a crowd does not make a city. anything between san jose and sherman oaks or east of concord I think of as “rural” in attitude, and I’m not alone! and nu has close to 4000 students. the site is wrong.

this thread has one question left on it, should people with no professional experience in a profession tell kids/parents where to learn that profession?

you are still not answering…

Yes if that person is a trained college counselor. Soozie has a wealth of knowledge about BA and BFA theater programs around the country and her knowledge has proven to be invaluable to many on CC. In addition, her D is a trained, WORKING actor in NYC. She is the first to admit that there are many roads to success in the world of theater and film. However, for those who have made the decision to pursue a degree in the field, she is one of best when it comes to information about available programs. FWIW, you come off as very arrogant, and as a resident of a metropolitan area of California, you don’t represent us well with your ignorant comments about “rural” Sacramento, as well as your ridiculous comments about California counties having larger populations than some states- very egotistical, snobby and generally embarrassing! You give Californians a bad name!

^^wow, so there it is you’re in this persons camp. maybe she advised you or your child on a school, maybe a theater program. well I hope it works out well, seriously I do.

personally i’ll stick to getting my advice from people who have actually done it

Define “rural.” (Hint: The phrase “rural attitude” is not a definition either.)
