Sadness at a Connecticut Elementary School

News of another shooting leaves me aching. What is it in our society that allows these madmen to believe that they can maim and murder people they’ve never met before? People, including schoolchildren whom are just casually going about their own innocent business . But I guess I’ve answered my own question. The shooters are quite mad. They are insane.

Makes me sick. Fatalities now being reported. No details.

This is so sad to hear… I feel awful for the kids and the community.

I am so angry and sad at the same time.

News is reporting Principal and Psychologist dead.

And at least one child. Looks like it happened in a kindergarten classroom.

Horrible. How traumatic for the kids especially.

CNN is reporting shooter dead at scene.

Oh… no. :frowning: Particularly awful. But these random shootings are becoming almost daily events. And shooting of intruders, there have been two pretty awful cases in the past month in my state (one of a guy who executed two teenagers who broke in to his house on Thanksgiving, and another of a pastor who accidentally shot his granddaughter who lived with him when he thought she was an intruder). Just… don’t know what to do to make this better. I come from a “gun culture” family, so I know there is no reasoning to be done. People honestly don’t react until someone in their own family is affected. And those numbers will never be high enough for us to turn the corner on this. Makes me despair.

I come from Michigan where we definitely have a gun culture. Heck, just last night our government shoved through legislation that made it legal to conceal carry on school grounds and other previously banned places. I lived a few miles away from the day care center that got shot up a few years back in Michigan. I don’t know what the answer is but whatever we’re doing, it’s clearly not working. And once again, children pay.

This is terrible news. I live in the next town and work with people who’s kids are in that elementary school. Fortunately none of them were hurt. Apparently, there is a manhunt for a second shooter.

Little children… intparent I believe people can get the message, I really do. Politicians have been afraid of the NRA but in the last election the NRA spilled millions into losing campaigns. There’s no reason that it should be easier to get a gun license than a driver’s license and no reason any automatic should be in private hands. I have to believe this country is coming to understand that. I grew up a few miles from this little school. I am heartsick.

Doc,a second shooter?! Oh my…

ABC News is reporting 12 dead. This is absolutely horrible.

A second shooter? Lord almighty!

Waiting for the news conference. Helicopters flying over my town, near Newtown. Danbury Hospital as well as local towns and schools are on lock down. My heart aches for all of those involved. It is a parent’s worst nightmare as well as a first responder.

Unfortunately, CBS News is reporting at least 27 dead.

Sevmom - yeah I just heard. It’s heartbreaking.

CBS is reporting 27 people dead, 14 of them children.

I am numb. I just turned on the TV to see this. Innocent people, mostly children. It’s so sad.
