<p>I was wondering if anyone had seen it, and what they thought of it. My H and I went last night. He thought it was <em>okay</em>. I really enjoyed it. Any other movies that any of you would recommend that are not mainstream?</p>
<p>mstee, the film is on my list. Higher up is the documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi, which would be a pretty amusing double feature with “Salmon Fishing”, tee hee :)</p>
<p>We saw “Footnote”, the Israeli contender for Best Foreign Film. The trailer positions it as a comedy, which it is: father and son are scholars in the same field, with the son’s career on a higher trajectory. Father receives a phone call informing him that he’s being awarded a prestigious prize. Unfortunately, that’s a mistake, the prize is supposed to go to the son. But what happens next turns away from humor to a dark underbelly of family dynamics. I’ve been thinking about it ever since, which means to me that the film is well worth seeing. We’ve also seen “In Darkness” and “A Separation” and would recommend those as well.</p>
<p>We saw the trailer for <em>Footnote</em> before <em>Salmon Fishing</em> began. It definitely looks like a movie that many who post on this forum could relate to. I would like to see that one also. I also saw <em>In Darkness</em> a couple of weeks ago – by accident, because my friend and I meant to see Salmon Fishing then, but the movie was cancelled due to technical difficulties, so we went to see the first movie we could find that started around 8:00, which turned out to be <em>In Darkness</em>. It was a dark movie indeed, but I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. Very powerful. At one point, my friend broke the tension by remarking in a loud whisper, “there sure is a lot of sex for a movie that is about living in the sewers.” </p>
<p>I have not seen or heard of <em>A Separation</em> or <em>Jiro Dreams</em> – will look into those.</p>
<p>I can recommend a non mainstream comedy that is just opening in limited markets.</p>
<p>Losing Control</p>
<p>It is full of quirky characters and really appealed to my family. A biology grad student tries to figure out if her boyfriend is the one by using scientific methods. We saw it at a film festival and it was nice to go and laugh out loud with the whole family.</p>
<p>Footnote sounds intriquing. It is going on my list.</p>
<p>Both Salmon Fishing and Losing Control are on my movie lists “to see”…would be curious to hear more from those who have seen the former…</p>
<p>I want to see Salmon Fishing too. Saw the previews when we saw Hugo or The Artist…can’t remember which. The trailer for “A Separation” looked really good. It’s gotten great reviews. It’s an Iranian movie…all subtitles. You can watch the trailer on YouTube.</p>
<p>One I’m really looking forward to is “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”. I think it comes out in May.</p>

<p>As for ‘Salmon Fishing,’ I am a bit leery of Ewan McGregor’s comedies since I feel burned by that awful ‘tall tale’ picture he did with Albert Finney a couple of years back. Argh, it was so bad I fought to stay awake.</p>
<p>*Losing Control *sounds like something my entire geeky family will enjoy (although NYT review was not too positive); hopefully, it will come to our neck of the woods soon. 
*A Separation *was playing at the local theater, but we dragged our feet and missed the last showtime, so went and saw *The Hunger Games *instead. Salmon Fishing… is on my “to be seen” list.</p>
<p>I get free passes to a lot of movies, so I see the good, the bad and the ugly. My DH and I both really enjoyed Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. We’ve walked out of a few previews, but we really enjoyed this one. Also found “This Means War” amusing, but not teriffic.</p>
<p>Got free passes to a movie that is part of a film festival so will be seeing a movie called “Take Me Home” tomorrow. Anyone know anything about it?</p>
