San Bernardino, CA Mass Shooting

“I gave a reply to a non-sensical generalization you made about the Middle East and Muslim countries. I repeat: if you don’t like people to paint you, your race, your country or religion with a wide brush, then I suggest you stop doing the same.
And, yes. It seems that mass shootings in the US are becoming the new norm.”

I don’t think it’s a non-sensical generalization to say that it is normal in some Middle Eastern countries to typically hate Americans and Jews.

“To answer your question: no, I don’t hate America. Or Americans. I hate people who make false generalizations and show disdain about other countries but don’t like it when people do the same to their country”

I don’t believe my question was if you hated America. It was what about it that you loved, or if you couldn’t stomach that, what you liked, or if you couldn’t come up with anything, what you didn’t hate. I’m still waiting for a response. It must be difficult, when you harbor so much hate.

“From your post alone, I can tell that you did not read my response to you the first time. Here, let me answer you:”

My post was a response to your question about what I thought was wrong with Sharia law, and your statement that you thought there was nothing wrong with it. I believe I directly answered that question.

I certainly don’t hate Muslim countries, nor the Muslims who live in them. I do hate those who are part of ISIS that execute people, sell women and children into slavery, and rape them. I harbor no ill will towards peaceful Muslims, and have nothing but sympathy for those who live under repressive regimes, particularly the women.

Now to not throw this thread into a complete tangent: I agree with @TatinG I know some girls an guys who flew to Daesh from a university here (mostly British and American, and one Canadian student). It was a shock. I knew some of the people and I went to check their twitters after the news came out. I followed the feed to a point from a year before they traveled. It seemed to grow more extreme until it cut about a week before they escaped. It’s especially sad because the parents really knew nothing (two of the moms were hospitalized due to shock; one dad got a stroke and another dad went into a diabetic coma (he had blood pressure problems too)). I wondered why no one saw and reported them to their parents. turns out one of the sisters was concerned, but her parents (they were out of the country) thought she was exaggerating. It’s sad, but I urge kids and people to report those they feel are getting radicalized just like you would report someone who says they are going to kill themselves - because the end result is practically the same.

If you mean it, then great. We’re on the same side. There is no need at all to create an “Us” vs. “Them” mentality. As @romanigypsyeyes says: it’ll be playing into Daesh’s hand. They want you to see Islam as the oppressive religion the passages you quoted earlier make it seem. and tbh you did sound like you had something against Muslims. But no matter, we can win by not letting these !#$%% &%#%#@ drive a wedge between the Muslim and non-muslim worlds.

California has been a blue state for years and years. It has the strictest gun laws in the country. These terrorists seem to have bought their guns and ammo legally. None of that prevents anything. We still have gang warfare, drive-bys, and now this.

Back to topic, I just heard a report that they had served a warrant to search another home near where they used to live. I do not know who it belongs to.

It belongs to the guy who may have bought the long guns, who has been missing since Wednesday.

So why are the pro-death penalty, pro guns, anti women’s health, anti science faction so opposed to Sharia law? It seems like a match made in heaven to me. I shudder at the thought of either group having control over the laws of the United States of America but I do know which possibility is more likely.

From a purely science and operational perspective, I assume he thinks this basically because he is correct, since a pistol and a rifle are the same things, both are semi-automatic. Additionally, there are many pistols that have more firepower and more effective bullets than the guns used by the shooters in CA.

Tactically speaking, in close quarters, a pistol is actually more useful because the sheer physical size of a rifle and its weight makes it more difficult too carry and, most of all, way more visible. Kind of hard to miss the person with the rifle, but there could be three people with pistols within 15 yards and no way to tell. In short, a couple people with pistols have an overwhelming advantage of surprise because the shooter has to know to shoot those people first,

What is happening here is non-gun users are being literally “fooled” and “falsely awed” re the utility and power of a rifle because in all these terror attacks and mass shootings there has been no one to fire back (all unarmed) or no one who knows how to close in on a shooter who is aiming away from him, even by 20 degrees or so. A person with a gun aiming away from you is at a huge disadvantage if you close on him because the average person can close on them from within 15 - 30 feet 2 to 3X faster than even good trained shooter can notice the motion, understand what is going on and then properly disengage the initial target and acquire the new target.

Therefore, people get this false picture of invincible people with rifles. They are not invincible and many are easily taken down, but you need one of two things for that to happen: 1) most effective, someone with a gun to fire back because that completely takes the shooter out of his game because he becomes defensive, thereby effectively lowering his ability to kill by many multiples or 2) people who what to do other than stand there or lie down and just get shot.

“So why are the pro-death penalty, pro guns, anti women’s health, anti science faction so opposed to Sharia law? It seems like a match made in heaven to me. I shudder at the thought of either group having control over the laws of the United States of America but I do know which possibility is more likely”

Oh come on now, such exaggerated rhetoric, from you? Even as a pro-choicer, I’m not biased enough to think that people who are pro life are anti women’s health. They just believe that aborting a baby in the womb is killing a baby, just the same as if you killed a baby out of the womb. It’s a different point of view, not being anti women’s health. That’s just silly.

What does being pro-death penalty have to do with anything? Methinks you just lumped a number of disagreements you had with people into one round insult.

All sorts of different people are pro gun, and why would people who are strong Christians think that it would be a good thing that these laws were implemented?

“Theft is punishable by amputation of the right hand.
Criticizing or denying any part of the Quran is punishable by death (only for those who are Muslims & only in a country where Islamic law is completely implemented).
Criticizing or denying Muhammad is a prophet is punishable by death (not denying by non Muslims but criticizing only at a level where it causes mischief).
A Muslim who becomes a non-Muslim is punishable by death
A non-Muslim who leads a Muslim away from Islam is punishable by death.
The punishment for adultery is stoning until death. This is only given if the person admits to it, there are four witnesses, the person does adultery again, and the person admits to doing it again.
A woman’s testimony in court, allowed only in property cases, carries half the weight of a man’s.
A female heir inherits half of what a male heir inherits.
A woman cannot speak alone to a man who is not her husband or relative, except in matters of extreme importance (i.e. emergencies or life and death situations)”

It does seem to me that those on the left are far less critical of Sharia law, and that completely confuses me.

So, the police who die in mass shootings, like the in Colorado Springs last week? Was he “falsely awed” even though he had a gun?

The shooters have the element of surprise. All this often happens quickly with plenty of innocent people milling around. Your theory is very different from reality in an extremely tense and highly charged atmosphere with little reaction time. Very few people have training for that.

I don’t see SWAT teams or SEAL teams choosing a pistol as a weapon of choice in their line of duty.

@busdriver11 , This leftie finds Sharia law, as you defined it in your thread, abhorrent and barbaric.

However, these laws are espoused by a small percentage of modern Muslims. To judge all Muslims by Sharia law is just as unfair as to judge all Christians by “an eye for an eye”

I am glad you agree, @katliamom.

I would never judge all Muslims by Sharia law, just those Muslims who support it. Most Muslims (particularly women) are merely victims of it.

There is going to be a new issue with gun production, 3d printers.

The focus on gun control law is detracting from the scarier issue that radicalized religious zealots want to kill us IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE. Don’t lose sight of the fact that this couple had a dozen pipebombs in their home. The Tsarnaev bros didn’t use guns. Neither did the 9/11 terrorists. And the incidence of Islamic terrorism incidents in the US is only sure to rise, as soft targets will be increasingly targeted.

Whoa, GMTplus7! If nothing else, this is a good reference. And you’re right of course: guns aren’t the only way we can be victimized.

Still no reason to make them readily available for every nut job out there, which is pretty much the case today. I personally advocate gun control not because of terrorist threats. I advocate it because I think that guns are dangerous, and that people who have them pose a risk to others, as well as themselves.
