San Bernardino, CA Mass Shooting

Here is a CNN report:

What’s more sad about this is, some people will be more drawn to him because of this. I just don’t want to know who these people are because I want to pretend no one agrees with him.

Don’t they have security camera’s? It should be self evident after checking the tape.

CF, I’m shocked. Something not thought through coming from this individual? Shocked, I tell ya.

teriwtt, unfortunately, you are probably dead-on.

I heard the sheriff say there were no security cameras in that building.

I heard Mr. T say on Greta that his comments don’t apply to American citizens.

Thank goodness for the separation of powers! It would be scary to have someone with such unbelievably discriminatory ideas to be able to dictate what the law is. Does anyone think that our Congress would step in and enact such a draconian set of laws or the SCOTUS would hold this garbage constitutional? Wait… we have Korematsu.

This could be the flipside of the case before the Supreme Court now; the one in which Texas and other states are suing to say that the president overstepped his powers on immigraton. I agree that executive orders that bypass Congress are out of hand and could lead to the next president doing something like this on his own authority.

I’m beginning to understand how terrible decisions like Korematsu come to be. You look at that case and you think, wait, what, why would the Supreme Court need more than two seconds to decide for Korematsu? And yet, there Korematsu v. United State is, right up there with Plessy and Dred Scot in the list of Worst Supreme Court Decisions of All Time.

CF, if you are interested in how the data the court relied upon was … to say it mildly… misrepresented and in other details of the case, you might want to take a look at this book written by a law prof who in 1980s was a young attorney on the team that succeeded in overturning Korematsu’s conviction:

Sometimes I’m not totally clear on what constitutes “political,” i.e. against TOS, but we probably need to be cognizant of that before this thread gets shut down.

And I DO think a lot of the discussion about a certain public figure has very little to do with party affiliation and everything to do with the topic of this thread…for what that’s worth, and it may not be worth squat.

Hope the discussion of the Constitution is OK.

It won’t happen…he is so far off base that he will be gone and soon , but the same fear is held on the other side too. We need level heads , not a parade of circus freaks like we are seeing now

Am I the only person who remembers Oklahoma City?

^^^^@lje62, I thought that months ago, and yet…

For the life of me, I don’t understand how anyone I know ever got on board with Trump, but they did. I have a lot of conservative friends, some of whom liked him …none of them still support him now with all of the offensive remarks he has made .One of my neighbors put a sign in their front yard for him and it has recently been taken down. I think he will be out of the mix within two to three months.

Interesting development in light of his words regarding Muslims:

It was not debunked. It was not a set up and not even, at heart, the reporter’s idea. As others pointed out, Trump has a history of throwing ideas around without thinking them through. What he did previously was say that Muslims should be watched and he suggested we maintain a database to track them.

What the reporter was trying to do was get Trump to be more specific. To track Muslims, wouldn’t you need some kind of database? And if you keep a database, how is that different from forcing them to register? So this wasn’t “debunked” at all. It’s just that most people don’t try to get Trump to think things through.

We see a similar patern today. At first it’s keep all Muslims out. Then it’s Yes, including American citizens! Then it’s, OK maybe not American citizens.

Trump is just Elmer Gantry with a Twitter feed.

yes, it is strange. This is why I posted the facts that the guns everyone wants to ban are only involved in 2% of the homicides in the U.S.

Didn’t seem to stop the usual arguments though… jym might even call the responses “the same, tired arguments” that don’t care about the reality.

Perhaps the answer is that people don’t care about poor black inner city dwellers murdering each other.

The Huffington Post is trying to do what it can to take down Trump…

hasn’t worked so far, but it is nice of Ms. Huffington to think she has that much sway. She must understand her media only reaches a self-selecting demographic, so I’m not sure how she expects to persuade anyone to change their opinion (also nice to blatantly say that she is unwilling to responsibly cover a candidate that is leading in the polls). But, there is no journalistic integrity at HuffPo (or much of anywhere…)

fwiw, to be clear, I think Trump is an idiot.

I thought Trump was over and done when he said “John McCain was no war hero”. A man who endured torture and who almost everyone admires. That was last summer. Didn’t even make a dent.
