@TatinG, even if this was triggered by something immediate, even if the decision to act was itself spontaneous, the groundwork could still have been laid long before. Someone who fantasizes about such an act may well lay in the supplies ahead of time, may well craft pipe bombs and detonate them “for fun” while imagining their eventual targets, etc. And to the extent that such a person has friends, they may well have friends who are willing to join them. Look at the Columbine shooters - it may be uncommon to bring friends to a killing spree, but it does happen.
There’s your problem, you’re going with wild speculation. If you go with the domesticated variety, you’ll be correct at least 20-30% of the time.
One thing is for sure. The police who have been going into harms way all day today, are true heroes.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/12/02/the-san-bernardino-mass-shooting-is-the-second-today-and-the-355th-this-year/ Holy cow. The 355th mass shooting this year. How terribly sad that a shooting on the other coast, as anothe poster pointed out, that “onlt” involved 4 victims/1 death gets lost in the shadow of a bigger tragedy. ENOUGH.

SUV rented Monday (heard from tv “guest”)
My best friend from middle school is a speech therapist working in an elementary school a few blocks away. A few hours ago she posted on Facebook to let everyone know she is okay. She had been on lock down with her young charges at the school but is home now. To huddle in a classroom full of children with no information other than an active shooter is in the area? None of us could imagine waking up to such a day, but in fact, no one is immune.
What’s weird about this one (and I guess the Boston one as another example, too), is that usually these killers expect to go out in what they think is a blaze of glory - they expect to get killed, or they often suicide after they’re done with their rampage, but these people obviously decided they were going to try to get away; they were really stupid in their attempts… seriously. They could have been on an interstate so quickly and out of reach before anyone identified the black SUV; they were just stupid.
Of course, that part gives me the creeps, because I drive a black SUV; and I thought about how many other black SUVs I see on the road. How do the cops know which ones to run plates on when they’re searching for a nondescript black SUV (unless there was more to that description that they had to work with than we were told).
Demanding “gun control” does no good. We need specific proposals.
Saying you want to “ban all the guns” or hold up Australia as the “perfect example” will make the other side unwilling to compromise, as they will believe you do not believe Americans should have the right to own guns. They are not going to cave on the right to own guns.
Make realistic proposals and bring the opponents to your side. That is the only way something will happen in Washington.
One of the shooter’s name:
Syed Farook
Another shooter may be his brother
There have been plenty of reasonable proposals. They go nowhere.
Heard just now that they have recovered the weapons and have serial numbers so they will eventually be able to determine where they came from.
What’s particularly depressing is that there are so many mass shootings in the US that we’re not even sure whether it’s Islamic terrorism even when it deliberately is…
So I think it’s obvious that the shooter(s) were planning on doing this at some point. And IMO this was a terrorist activity. However I do wonder if perhaps he wasn’t sure where/who he was going to kill and then he had the blowup at the party and said what the hey lets kill these people.
All pure speculation but one “expert” suggested the possibility the the workplace revenge killing was planned well in advance and the appearance at the gathering was, in essence, casing the joint with the imminent plan already in place. It wasn’t that he just ran home and got guns but was potentially already staged to attack.
The Islamic terrorists don’t need to bother with attacking us; we’re doing a pretty good job of destroying ourselves.
^ Exactly, teriwtt. How many of those 355 recorded mass shootings this year were linked to Islamic terrorism?
Seems to me that we’re doing American gun terrorism fine and dandy. Oh, and we’re also losing a hell of a lot more lives to it.
But yeah, let’s fear the thing that hasn’t taken lives in the US in a while (sorry, forgot about the Chattanooga attacks… but my larger point still stands).
I just don’t buy the work place revenge killing theory. There is a report out there that he became much more religious in the last 2 years. The dad reportedly says he is shocked hasn’t seen them in a while because of a divorce. I think he and his brother changed from Muslim to terrorist ISIS.
Workplace revenge shooters don’t bring their armed brother & GF when they go postal.
Seems that many people have difficulty identifying cars. Sometimes, even the type of a car is incorrectly identified. I saw a news article on the web about an SUV crash, but the photos of the crashed “SUV” made it easy to identify the make and model of the car, which was not an SUV.
