I’m confused about the data on ā€œa-gā€ courses for college applications. The average number of courses taken throughout high school (grades 9-12) seems to be around 25-28, but I’m unclear if this refers to courses per semester or per year.

My school uses a semester system with 6 classes per semester.** Based on this, I calculated that I could potentially take 48 ā€œa-gā€ courses (6 classes/semester * 2 semesters/year * 4 years). Is this calculation correct?

Additionally, my school has a ā€œzero periodā€ option, so i have 28 a-g courses for 10-11?

The A-G Matching page in the application lists the A-G subject totals based on the courses you reported in the High School Coursework and College Coursework sections. The Subject column displays the requirement, and the Years column displays the number of years you have fulfilled. Years are calculated according to your high school’s academic term, such as semester, trimester, etc. Your Total Years calculation and your resulting Calculated GPA appear at the bottom of the table.

Thanks for clarification. So when people are posting in this topic.
ā€œNumber of a-g courses taken 9-12th:ā€
the number is from this:
aa
in this case 54?

Since the template does not specify years vs semesters only 9-12th etc… you are probably seeing a mixture of years and terms listed.

Minimum a-g courses required is 15 years.

The template has been around for a few years so I can modify it any way the CC posters prefer for next year.

Great. I was confused because most of those posting numbers in 20s (23, 28. 29, 30.5 etc.) and ours was very different. I was wondering how they are calculating this number. Makes sense now

Most of the CSU data I have seen lists the number of a-g courses as Years/Semesters.

I Updated the original template to Years/Semester for the March decisions. The Majority of the CSU’s will look for the number of a-g courses beyond the minimum 15 years to help in their application review for rigor.

For the CSU’s you can log back in to the CSU application and under the academic history click on the A-G matching for a summary.

Congratulations! When did you get the good news?

I am intl, got in for finance. initially SDSU was not on my cards at all, but now after getting rejected by my top choices, I am considering SDSU. pls drop in pros and cons, I barely have any idea about the university, if its a right fit for me etc. I am Indian on investment banking track

SDSU can give a great education in Finance but not a huge feeder for IB companies. As an International student you will be expected to return to your home country after Undergrad unless you plan to purse a graduate program or able to find a US company sponsor which in itself is very difficult these days.

I am currently waiting on nyu, babson and a few other schools. if not then I will definitely consider SDSU, the cost makes it all the more tempting

UCSB portal info went out in January to all applicants. If you can’t find info in your spam I suggest calling admissions.

My son is local and was accepted around March 15th last year. Business Finance major.

I have a feeling locals won’t be notified until mid-March. Congratulations to your son.
