San Diego State Class of 2029 Freshman Discussion Thread

I am starting the SDSU discussion since Cal State Apply has opened with a submission deadline of December 2 this year.

Historically SDSU has offered an Early admission decision for some High stat/Honors college invitees, OOS and International students.

2024 Decision Timeline
Early admits starting December 18- Early Feb 2024. Rare admit March 2. Nursing admits posted March 5. Some audition based majors heard March 7. Another wave of Admits March 11, 2024 and March 13, 2024. Waitlists posted March 19, 2024. Denials posted March 20, 2024. Weber’s Honors college notification March 21, 2024

You are welcome to discuss anything of interest in regard to San Diego State along with posting your admission decision.

SDSU admits based on the CSU Capped weighted GPA, HS course rigor, # of a-g course requirements taken above the minimum, local admission area status and first generation status.
EC’s are not considered in the admission process but SDSU now considers alternate majors.

How much does coursework towards intended major count? DD is applying as a psych major and only has AP psych on her transcript. She has 11 APs in total, 25 a-g courses. CSU capped GPA is 4.19 and she is OOS. Thanks!

SDSU states on their Freshman admission criteria the following:

You must choose a major when you apply to SDSU. All majors are competitive, and every major has more applicants than available spots (impaction). While we look at all of the college-prep coursework you have taken during high school, we also consider your performance and the number of units taken in courses most relevant to predict success in your intended academic discipline.

So yes, doing well in major related courses can help in the admission process.

Does anyone know if AP Environmental Science is considered a biological (D1) or physical (D2) science for the Cal State application?

APES is considered an Interdisciplinary Science but the CSU’s categorize it as a Physical Science.

Thank you!

BTW, for some reason, we are having a problem on his Cal State application. He has selected that he does not wish to release his CAASPP scores nor any standardized test scores, but when we generate the preview of the application to submit, his CAASPP scores are showing. We have looked and checked at all his selections and they all state “do not report scores” in the CAASPP Results Release Statement and the Standardized testing section. Any suggestions on what to do here?

Did he use Californiacolleges.edu website to import the courses on the Cal State application? This may be the reason for the issues you are having.

No, he just did it manually.

The release of the CAASPP results will not affect a student’s application for admission . Results are only used to determine a student’s placement after he or she has been admitted to the CSU.

Not sure why the results are showing up if you select not have them released.

My kid is applying to SDSU as a primary major of Psychology, and alternate of undeclared. How does Undeclared work in SDU. Is that okay to give as an alternate major ? - I do see that option, and assume if we dont get into Psyc, then they would consider under Undeclared. ? @Gumbymom

SDSU does not consider alternate majors only the primary major for admission.

Undeclared had 4018 applicants with 1838 admits so an admit rate of 46%.

Psychology had 5191 applicants with 1350 admits so an admit rate of 26%.

At the time of admission to the university, each undergraduate student is assigned to a pre-major or major field or curriculum, OR is designated as an undeclared major. After registration, all students wishing to change their major or curriculum should check with the department of their intended major for requirements and filing periods.

It is important to note that Psychology is a competitive major, and students must fulfill specific criteria and complete certain preparatory courses before being admitted to the program.

Based on last year’s thread, it looks like some decisions might come out in mid December?

Yes, SDSU admits a small percentage of High stats, Local SD and some OOS/International students early. Most of these admitted students are invited to apply to the Webers Honors College with an early priority deadline.

Good to know. Won’t count on hearing in December then

Hi all! I was looking through last year’s Class of 2024 forum. It seemed like every accepted student had a weighted GPA of 4.0+. Is there any chance of acceptance if my child is closer to 3.6?

You can check the gpa here:

Note that the data linked by @sfogooner is the enrolled GPA and not the admit GPA which is always higher.

The average Campus CSU GPA for admitted Freshman last year was 4.04 so a 3.6 is possible especially if the applicant is local.

Thank you for the clarification! This waiting game is not for the faint of heart.

OOS DD’s capped GPA is 4.19, 11 APS, 25 a-g courses. Any chance she might get a decision in December??
