San Diego State Freshman Class of 2030 Discussion Thread

I am starting the SDSU discussion since Cal State Apply has opened with a submission deadline of December 1 this year.

Historically SDSU has offered an Early admission decision for some High stat/Honors college invitees, OOS and International students.

2025 Decision Timeline
Fall 2025: Early admits starting December 17, 2025. Nursing admits February 27, 2025. March 4 admits posted. March 12, waitlists and some admits posted. Denials and some admits posted March 14.

2025 Waitlist: Admits Tuesday April 29, May 16, May 19. Wait list closed June 3.

You are welcome to discuss anything of interest (San Diego State University - College Confidential Forums) along with posting your admission decision.

SDSU admits based on the CSU Capped weighted GPA, HS course rigor, # of a-g course requirements taken above the minimum, Intended major, preparation of towards major study, local admission area status and first generation status.
EC’s are not considered in the admission process but SDSU now considers alternate majors. There is however a section on the CSU application where you can indicate hours/week spent on EC’s.

Hello! My DS is applying as a first-year applicant to SDSU Fowler School of Business. There are a number of sub-areas within business (finance, marketing, etc.) as well as general business. I am curious to know 1) if students are being compared to all applicants within the business major, or if they’re admitted separately based on sub-area 2) if it’s by sub-area, do they look at different criteria for each one (e.g. specific classes or activities in high school that map to the sub-area’s focus) 3) once admitted, if there’s an opportunity to change easily once students get more exposure to the discipline areas? Thank you!

SDSU admits by major and they do admit based on the sub-specialties within the Business College.

SDSU does not specifically state which HS prep courses are considered for Business majors unlike some STEM and Nursing majors on their website, but they state the following:

While we look at all of the college-prep coursework you have taken during high school, we also consider your performance and the number of units taken in courses most relevant to predict success in your intended academic discipline.

Changing majors within the College is not an issue.

These are the recommended steps to change majors:

  • Check requirements:
Visit the SDSU Catalog to find the specific prerequisites and requirements for the new business major you want to declare.

  • Meet with an advisor:
Schedule an appointment with an advisor for your desired new major through SDSU Navigate (EAB) to discuss the requirements and the next steps.

  • Submit the form:
The advisor will guide you on how to officially change your major by submitting the Declaration of Major or Minor form.

  • Adhere to rules:
Be aware that you must adopt the requirements of the major in effect at the time you file the form. You also must declare your major before reaching 70 units

SDSU admission criteria: Weighted CSU GPA is the largest factor, but we also consider Intended major, the amount of A-G courses above and beyond the minimum, preparation towards intended major (courses and GPA), HS course rigor, first-gen, and local status.
