Admitted major is Interior Architecture, but she has reviewed the curriculum and wants more math and science, too. She says she is now not sure she is ready for a 5-year BArch. So far she has been accepted to Tulane (not nearly enough merit) and University of Arizona for their BArch. Waiting to hear back from University of Oregon on the BArch admission. But, I think sheād really like to go to school at SDSU and wants to make sure she can explore a bit. She also understands she is looking at a longer path to licensure if she does end up wanting to do Architecture. LMK if I should move this discussion somewhere else. Thanks so much for your input!
Technically, Jr/Sr can try/apply to live in the on campus apartments, but it is very hard for them to get in since they are bursting at the seams to house Sophomores in those apartments. A couple years ago, the smallest apartment building housed Graduate students, but no complex has been designated for Jrs/Srs in the post-Covid years.
How important is admitted student day on 4/13? We have just been down for a visit where we did a tour including looking at dorms, but my daughter doesnāt want to miss out on any opportunities to meet potential friends/roommates.
Has she already decided to commit to SDSU? If yes, then itās not important to be there for Admitted Student day. I know students who have skipped it and did not miss anything important. But if she hasnāt decided, the spirit of Admitted Student day can help her decide.
Meeting possible roommates can be done via apps (sorry I donāt know the ones the kids use now, but I know this is the common method there.)
I hope your son thrives wherever he goes. My son has also done well academically, and he scored 1520 on his SAT, and he is (probably) going to SDSU, and I think he will have an amazing time there and get a high-quality education. I am happy and excited for him.
My daughter is committed (and excited!) and is not going to admitted students day. Weāre east coast and have already been out several times for visits. Sheās a bit disappointed not to meet some kids sheās been chatting with already but knows sheāll be there soon enough!
Has anyone been able to find the schedule for accepted student day on Saturday? I canāt find anything and my son checked his portal this morning and there wasnāt anything.
Great job Aztecs - yesterday was well done. Students leading tours were OUTSTANDING! I felt it was very organized, spirited and welcoming. Touring the dorms - attending the breakouts for College of Arts and Letters and the Webers Honor College were fantastic. Now its time to make decisions - son is conflicted as he thought Davis was in the lead but now is tied with SDSU!
This just highlights the importance of visits. SDSU was one of our first pre-admissions tours last year. A generally positive visit followed with additional visits to other potential campuses. A year later, with multiple admitted student events under our belt and SDSU has dropped. Just was not feeling the vibe on Saturday. Although we may have not done it justice hitting Triton day earlier.
Has anyone received their financial package for SDSU? My son received, but no state or university grants were listed. I believe he is eligible for Cal Grant A, but it was not shown.
Would love to hear all the things people are excited about for SDSU. My son made a quick pivot after getting off the waitlist and we are supporting his decision. But Iām reading so many horror stories about the dorms on the parent FB page and the SDSU youtubers highlight the partying, reinforcing that long standing image of it as a namely a party school. Truly, all the good stuff please - especially if you have an older child who also attended. I need to get excited for my son and sleep better at night.
I hope that youāll get some first-hand info, but I can share some second- and third-hand observations. First, I suspect every parent FB group includes complaints about dorms, food, bureaucracy, etc. My second-hand info is that the dorms are fine - probably not the fanciest, but fine. Second, YouTube and Instagram versions of any college will be skewed. The students I know at SDSU are smart and motivated. Iām sure there are parties at SDSU - but there are parties at every college.
