@conmama - weather report this morning says rain possible Monday into Tuesday. It looks like highs by the coast will be around 64 degrees. Inland it will be in the 70’s.
Ugh…we arrive Tuesday noon. Let’s hope that’s not what welcomes us. I’ve been looking forward to taking my boys for a couple years now.
Officially it’s currently 64 and partly sunny but my thermometer says 70 - just stepped outside and do not see any clouds. Here’s hoping the skies clear for your arrival! Pop in and say hello ;).
I grew up in inland north San Diego county. Post #15 has it about right. Have a wonderful trip, whatever the weather!
I wonder if it’s where we are coming from. It’s 63 here with 78% humidity and I’m warm in my jeans and very light jacket. But it’s 6:00, also. Day heats up. I’ll be taking more than I want but that’s ok! I’m sure we’ll figure out something to do if it sprinkles.
Where is here? Our weather comes across the ocean, sometimes up or down the coast. But essentially from the west.
Close to Chicago.
SD county is not typically humid.
We typically have dry weather but at the coast it is “wet” from the “May Gray”
@conmama - I’m watching local news this morning and they say it’s only going to be 60 degrees at the coast next week. Not great beach weather, but a good time for hiking at Torrey Pines or visiting the zoo or lots of other San Diego attractions. I still love to walk along our beaches in this weather just with a jacket.
Accuweather and weather dot com are showing highs of 64 to 67 for us next week, on Point Loma. But mainly cloudy.
I think we picked the wrong week. I believe the week after it will be beautiful. I can’t lie, I find it disappointing. It’s expensive with the 4 of us, and although no one can predict the weather, I picked SD because I thought there would be no rain and a bit warmer than the Midwest. Forecast has us almost 10 degrees warmer at home.
But, I have to focus on the fun we will have, the wonderful places we will visit and great restaurants. I wasn’t planning on doing the beach thing anyway, as I knew it wasn’t the good season. DH surfs, so he will still do that. The ocean view will be beautiful to us. I think the rain is what’s a downer.
It’s just we were all in CA four years ago in June, and the weather was spectacular for 10 days.
@conmama -you were extremely fortunate to get 10 great days here in June. May Gray and June gloom are a real thing here each year. I have lived less than a mile from the beach for more than 30 years and this is typical weather. Some days I just have to go another mile inland and there is the sun. I never recommend May or June for a visit. I always tell friends to come in September and October when it is warm at our beaches and there are fewer tourists.
I believe the rain prediction is based on a front that is currently over Hawaii; nothing coming towards us on the radar any closer. So you may get lucky yet. And many days this time of year start out gloomy and get lovely by mid-afternoon. Any rain is likely to be patches rather than all day downpours. It’s not as much of a gamble as the Midwest - I’m thinking Memorial Day weekends in the Chicago suburbs where it could be in the 50’s and rainy or the 90’s and sunny.
We always seem to pick the wrong day to come to San Diego but we always find things to do. Do go for a hike at Torrey Pines! Gorgeous.
It depends where in San Diego and what you consider shorts weather. It’s sunny and low 70s right now at my place, which I consider shorts weather. However, it’s expected to cool down some later in the week, with highs in the 60s, so I’ll likely switch to jeans next week. Wind is also relevant, particularly near the coast or at high elevations. If you are visiting next week, I’d recommend packing long pants, as well as a light jacket for the evenings and/or windier locations.
Went to an outside baby shower today in the University City area and it was gorgeous.
I’ve mostly had lovely sunny weather in my visits to San Diego—mid until late May, August and Oct/Nov.
On vacations like that, I like to have some shorts and some long pants … and a pair of zip-offs that allow me to adjust throughout the day.
Cloudy with intermittent showers this morning.
We arrive tomorrow, so hopefully they will be gone! It’s been very frustrating packing. This shows me a need a few more light weight jackets/blazers.
