San Jose State Class of 2028 Official Thread

thank you! I wish we had info from all the colleges so we can make a commitment somewhere!

Unfortunately, very few CSU’s will guarantee Freshman housing so having to place a deposit early before all decisions are posted in very stressful. All decisions will be posted by April 1 unless of course the student is waitlisted. WL= Admissions purgatory.

We contacted SJSU housing to ask about this. They said you can get $200 of the $350 back.

They also said that as long as you apply for housing by the May 1st priority deadline, you would have the same chance of getting your first choice of housing as everyone else who also applies between 3/12 and 5/1.

My daughter has to make a final decision still and SJSU is one of her top choices too. Hoping she’ll be able to decide by end of next week. We’re visiting Sonoma State tomorrow and she’s still waiting on SDSU although we’re expecting a denial there (nursing major).

I did not update about my son who was admitted for Software Engineering.

SJSU is one of the top colleges he’s considering, does anyone have any general insights about Internships/Jobs and any general information which helps him in making a decision.

He will be coming in with 39 units due to his AP credits. I am trying to see the difficulties of getting classes for his major.

Question for those who understand SJSU’s impaction and admission process. My D24 was admitted in her alternate major of undeclared. Her first choice was pre-nursing but her impaction score was 3128 and she needed 3160.

She is planning to attend (have already put in the housing deposit). My question is, are there ever cases where they might switch her to her first choice? Say for example, if their yield in pre-nursing is lower than expected or when they see her senior grades which were all straight As first semester.

If not, she will go in undeclared and try to switch into pre-nursing after her first semester. We know she can still apply to the actual nursing program in her sophomore year as an undeclared major. She’ll be applying to lots of nursing programs that year anyway as they’re so competitive, but we want to give her the best shot at San Jose as she’d like to stay at the same school for all 4 years if possible.

My kid is a sophomore right now, but I was reading this thread just to understand the admission process at SJSU. Please let me know if I understood correctly. My kid’s CSU GPA times 800 is the impaction score correct ? If their impaction point happens to be above the previous year’s impaction scores, does that mean they have a good chance of getting in? or is the impaction threshold just a minimum ? My kid will most probably apply for Biology related majors(not pre med).
Also, the website says 10th, 11th and 12th course grades are used in calculating CSU GPA, but by the time CSU apps are due in Nov, first sem 12th grades are not out yet. Am I missing something ?
Sorry for all the questions. Its very confusing! Thanks for all the help in advance.

The numbers on the web site are the previous admission cycle threshold for admission. For the next year, the threshold could change (higher or lower) due to being competitively determined. But the previous cycle threshold should give some idea of the chance of admission.

It would only be for frosh applicants who had gap year(s) after finishing high school before applying as frosh that grades from 12th grade are available for the CSU frosh application.

Thank you so much!
The threshold numbers for Biology and Bioengineering majors have been going down every year it seems. Any ideas about the reason ? Is the program not good ?
And nowhere on the website does it say if the Math GPA is weighted or unweighted.
