Santa Clara University Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

How low can grades drop before Santa Clara rescinds acceptance? Not saying I will purposely but just wondering?

You might want to send something to admissions as well. At many colleges, merit awards are from admissions, not the financial aid office.

I will say, we visited the financial aid office in person during accepted student days, and they were terrific. So…maybe all types of aid (merit and need) are handled there.

My kid enrolled in 2006 with a $6000 SCU grant or something like that. We thought it was need based (we had two kids in college which counted at the time). The nice surprise for us was that it was actually a combo need/merit award, and it increased the same %age as the cost to attend each year. I can’t say if that is still true or not. But it was a nice surprise.

From the SCU website - at most schools this also means no grades below a ā€˜C’:

Rescission Policy:

The Office of Undergraduate Admission reserves the right to rescind an offer of admission under any of the following circumstances:

  • If there’s a significant deterioration in your academic work during your final months of school or you do not graduate and receive a diploma by the end of this school year.

Talked to financial aid and admissions office . They said NPC is just an estimate and we should not plan by it :frowning:

I am going to still fill the appeal form , it is going to open first week of January .

I was always so sure that we would have good merit/aid as it is a big price tuition and through all campus tours and sessions they mentioned almost 85% students get good financial aid .

I guess I never thought of how much in terms of amount .

Is your son doing ED or EA?

ED is harder to negotiate.

We did ED , as my son really loves the school and always wanted to go there . We already have some of our friends kids and cousins there . As it was his top choice , we did ED , and we did do our research and I know that schools do look at NPC .

But seems like not at SCU , should have gone EA maybe  . Not sure if that could have helped with negotiation

I do understand the binding part , and was completely ok with paying what NPC stated . Just didn’t think it would be this low aid from SCU .

My sons stats are below -

GPA - 5.1 / 5.0
Rank GPA - 5.2/ 5.0
SAT 1370
9 APs / 15 DE hours / All honors classes except few
Presidential Volunteer service award winner
Eagle Scout and junior assistant scoutmaster (9 years with the BSA Troop 840 and held 4 different leadership positions)
Metrocrest services (400 volunteer hours)
Internship / Job at computing academy
Job at IT company ( assistant UI developer)
4 year STEM pathway in school
Baseball USSSA ( until 10th grade)
Several School clubs ( leadership positions)
CS Capstone Project ( Defensive Driver Alert system using computer vision , AI and programming )

I love SCU for their Engineering programs , hands on experience with projects , rigorous curriculum , Amazing professors and internship resources . Mainly for their initiatives to build / innovate for social good.

I absolutely love the school and completely understand that it’s their decision on who gets scholarships / merit awards . I also truly appreciate the bronco award they did offer

I just expected more merit with his profile

I can’t say I understand everything about their process but I do have 100% faith in their process and that there are many more deserving students .

One of my sons friend got likely letter from Columbia but was deferred from SCU

Amazing stats.

We are also ED. Merit scholarship is also low. Only ~35% of what NPC gave us.

Those who got into the Business school EA/ED, what are your stats?

Does that mean no class can be below C or grade entirely like gpa wise?

You are going to have to check with SCU directly to verify what they mean by a ā€˜significant deterioration’ as each school sets their own policy. Generally speaking, you are expected to maintain the level of performance that gained you admission. A drop in one class can happen, a drop overall in grades and GPA may be a reason to revoke the offer of admission.

If there are extenuating circumstances for you right now, I’d reach out to an admissions counselor asap and have that conversation - good luck to you!

The portal indicates the last update as December 15, 2023; does this mean we will not receive merit aid?

Not sure.
ED or EA? Maybe different majors and what is your stats GPA?

EA, CSE, 4.3w

same situation, hoping there’s something to come, or at least a note saying that there isn’t.

I emailed them today asking about merit because my stats were similar to those getting merit. I was hoping I had a chance at some of the bigger scholarships since nobody who received an award got the half or full tuition scholarships and they told me "Thank you for your email. All available merit awards are awarded upon admittance. Around 10-15% of applicants receive merit funding as we are a small university. "

It seems some others with the same major already received their finance package.

What are your stats ?
