Santa Clara University Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

Good stats , should have gotten merit .

I would hope at least they would send a definitive, “don’t need to wait any longer, here’s what it will cost w/o merit” note.

We can expect to receive the email tomorrow, as the merit aid cut-off (set a week from admission) is concluding.

Agree ! Last year I saw someone post about scholarship award on the dec 26th . Not sure if they received sooner and just saw later on 26th .

Either ways , good luck and I hope everyone waiting still get good merit .

Yes. We are in that camp. The SCU merit offer wouldn’t be enough to align with offers she got elsewhere though.

Even though they call them quarters, there are functionally 3 “real” quarters per year (fall, winter, spring). Classes are offered in the summer “quarter” but the main academic year has 3 quarters (x4 years = 12 main quarters)

Those are strong stats (congratulations to you and your son); I would think SCU would be happy to have a student like that. ED does reduce your negotiating power though. It is my understanding, however, that if the financial aid package with an ED offer deviates significantly from what you were expecting (and basing your expectation on the NPC seems reasonable to me), you may be able to be released from the binding decision. Do you have better merit offers from other schools yet? You may be able to try and leverage those to a better merit offer from SCU.

I think this is usually by class, not overall.

Anyone here with experience trying to negotiate for more $ in exchange for a commitment?

Yes , he does have 5 other EA acceptances and merits from two . Few of the schools have not announced merit yet and that info is coming soon in next few weeks .

Thank you very much for the explanation. 3 (real) quarters a year makes sense!

We are staying very close to SCU (a 20-minute drive away). Will they allow the student to reside off-campus?

I don’t know for sure
but one of my daughter’s first year roommates family lived locally and she lived on campus
but went home every.single.weekend.

Here:

Santa Clara University requires that all first and second-year students live on campus. Our office understands that for several reasons, your student may have a need for an exception.

Contact them to see what they deem an exception is.

What is the CSS profile? Where is that? We are in California and am wondering if this is something we need to fill out?

@jmom2017 this thread is about Santa Clara University. If you have a student applying to that college and want to be considered for need based aid
they require the CSS Profile be submitted.

You need to check the financial aid website pages for all of your colleges to see IF they require this form. If they do, you are required to complete it for institutional need based aid consideration.

So
do you have a student applying to Santa Clara?

Did your D23 changed to EDII or RD? Curious. Thanks.

She opted for RD. They called her and offered her a spot and $16k merit at the very last minute.
