Kiddo deferred for Leavey business. While this is one of her top choices, still do not want to commit to ED2. Any idea on chances of RD acceptance?

My daughter was accepted EA to mechanical engineering. Very excited, one of her top choices! Need to wait for financial aid info.

For future reference, 3.91 UW/4.22 W, 8 AP, in Washington state.

D25 admitted for Biology.
4.3 W/3.98 UW (One B+), TO, Private CA high school.
Solid ECs, thoughtful essay, both parents attended + lots of aunts and uncles.
We are thrilled for her as it’s such a lovely option.
Happy to answer questions as I have two younger cousins who recently graduated and we just attended our 30th reunion.

D23 was deferred for Biology and declined ED2. She was offered 16k and a spot at the very last minute, which she politely declined. I’d say your chances are fair, but hopefully they have another school they are aiming for that is ready to take them.

FWIW she was accepted at Cal, so don’t let your kid take it personally!

Thank you so much. Means a lot.
She does have a few other options, but she’s really hurting right now. She submitted a strong test score, with pretty good essays and ECs. She had a slightly lower UW GPA due to a personal issue in one of the semesters (which she explained), but was hoping they’d compensate it against her Full IB Diploma. I doubt they looked beyond just high GPA stats in the EA round at least, but I could be totally wrong.

My daughter was accepted to College of Liberal Arts with full tuition Presidential Scholarship!
Stats: uw4.0
public high school in Southern California
11AP’s with 4’s and 5’s, plus 2 DE classes
Highest level math: AP Calc AB
Highest level language: AP Spanish 6 Lit
5 yrs of AP/DE social studies classes
4yrs of science
She did not take the SAT or ACT
High impact EC’s that align with her major and made her community a better place.
Have not seen LOR’s but I would guess they were strong, she had a good relationship with her teachers.
We did not hire a private college counselor, but we did dive deep into what we could learn about this process over the past year.
Good luck to everyone, I hope this info is helpful for future applicants.

Congratulations to your daughter for her acceptance and an amazing scholarship! May I ask where the scholarship/merit aid is on the acceptance email/portal? Thanks!

Congrats. Amazing that they were able to see her community impact and reward with a full scholarship.

The scholarship and details were listed in her acceptance letter. There may have been a different breakdown in the portal, but I haven’t looked at it beyond the letter. I think there is a financial aid tab with a notice that those awards come in a couple weeks.

Kid applied ea for psychology. Decision is deferred. Not sure how the chances of admission is. Anyone have inputs ? Thanks

Look in the discussion for the link to the 2023 class profile. There psychology is mentioned as one of the top 5 popular majors. I assume it is a competitive major.

It will depend on your kid’s stats and whether they ED2 or go RD.
