Sarasota/Bradenton FL area advice?

Hello! We have a vacation home in Bradenton, FL that we inherited last year. I have been down a few times, but I just quit my job and I’m looking at a big lifestyle change that I think will include spending more time in Sarasota/Bradenton area. I would love to get more at home there. I’m an arts person - any areas to check out, organizations to join? Yoga studios? Outdoorsy stuff? Even restaurant recommendations are welcome. Our past visits we have mostly tried to clean up/clean out the house and then spent some time on the Anna Maria Island beaches and St. Armand’s Key.

My fil snowbirds a bit down there. Loves Yoders for breakfast.

I love the Columbia Restaurants, but I have not been to the one in Sarasota.

Downtown Sarasota has a lot of art galleries. Lots of little restaurants too. Just go down and explore!

Does “arts person” include only the fine and/or applied arts - or is music included also? (rhetorical question)

Sarasota Opera is quite fine. Several ifferent ways to get involved including volunteer and donor programs. Many who become major donors are retirees with no prior experience with opera or classical music.

I’m a writer/book person by trade but I like all of the arts and enjoy connecting with creative people. The opera is a great suggestion to check out, that’s the sort of thing I might not think to seek out so thank you. I’m excited to learn more about the area.

You have probably been there, but I enjoyed visiting the Ringling Museum in Sarasota.

Happy to point you to the opera for exploration!

Sarasota Orchestra is also fully professional. Volunteer opportunities.

Sarasota Orchestra also hosts an annual Sarasota Music Festival for three weeks in June for conservatory/music school students. Highly competitive, some of the best pre-professional players around along with well known musician artist-instructors.

We have a vacation home in Bradenton. When we get off property we are very casual so probably don’t take advantage of all the area has to offer.

We absolutely love Anna Maria/St Armands… have friends with homes there. The bay off Anna Maria is wonderful for kayaking and grabbing a casual meal/drink.

There are great art galleries around.

I’ve never taken advantage of the opera or orchestra on our visits so I’ll keep that in mind. We would enjoy that. Thanks, folks!

As a family from age 80-8, we enjoy the Sunday drum circle at Siesta Key.

Best wishes with your new property!!!
