SAT-Bain of my existence

hey there!
I am a Pakistani student applying for UnderGrad to the States.
I got 8 As in my O-Levels ( british-patterned edu) and have taken up Law, Econ,. Maths and Bus st. in My a-levels.
I gave my sat I for the 2nd time this Oct and got 710 M, 630 C.R, 650 W
Should i give a third attempt? Or concentrate on my Sat II?

Where are you applying to, and are you applying for financial aid? Different universiites have different standards for SAT scores.

I planned to apply to all the ivys, but now after my result have considered against it.
my prospective univs are:
upenn, columbia, middlebury, uc berkeley, swarthmore, nyu, michigan ann arbour, nrthwestern.
i am applying for financial aid.

Reality check: you have very little chances at UC Berkeley, Michigan, Northwestern, and probably nyu, because of your relatively low SAT scores and that fact that these schools are NOT need blind to international students. The ivies MIGHT work, but again, your SAT scores are relatively low, and I think UPenn and Columbia are only need blind to Canadian and Mexico citizens. You really want to consider some “second-tier” schools if you really want to come to the US, because the schools you listed are all among the most prestigious, competitive schools in the US. You need to add less competitive schools, like Univesity of Washington, and small liberal arts colleges like Davidson College, Colgate College, etc.

Er, I wouldn’t consider Davidson much less competitive… in fact it’s much more competitive than NYU from what I know, and about equal with Northwestern and UC-B… acceptence rate in the low 20%'s, average SATs 2050-2210…

Most of the schools you have listed are pretty competitive, and it’s true that you should look at need blind schools. U-Wash would be a good place to look (though financial aid would be hard to come by - they’re really stingy even with in-state kids). LAC’s that might suit you (and some of which could offer potentially good aid) could be Rhodes, Whitman, Occidental, Juaniata, Ursinus…

Basically, just look for some need-blind schools that have SAT scores around your range. It sucks that so much weight is placed on them, but it’s how it works these days. Keep in mind there are some schools that don’t consider SAT scores, like Sarah Lawrence, and Lawrence University.

Correct, howeve do realize that Davidson is very keen on recruiting a more diverse class, especialy kids from rare places like Pakistan. Apply Davidson ED, and I’m pretty sure you’d get in.

Sorry to crank - but it’s “bane of my existence” rather than “bain”

my bad
thnkyou for your input. Highly appreciated!
ill be giving my sat again in dec. if i do get my score up to the range of 2050-2100, then shd i go for it?
I knw getting in for me is highly unrealistic, but the only way ill be able to get premission to leave Pak is if i get in to the better known/prestigious Univs.
My transcripts, olvls grades and extra curricular is right up there!
