Sat composite scores

WHAT’s the good sat composite score to get good funding into need based colleges like cornell or duke or even trinity, or similar colz. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

what’s with the dots?

You’d need a minimum of 1400/1450+

the dots signify that the OP forgot the spelling of “colleges”. just kidding:D

^ ha ha… Dots were for nothing.

I completely disagree with sixstringsrocker. How can you say that 1400 is minimum to get into those college. The OP should realize that SAT is not the only important thing in the application. I have friends who got 1250ish in their SATs and are studying in Ivy-League and other prestigious LACs. Your SAT score does not tell the college what kind of person or student you are. Lot of colleges these days do not use Standardized Test Scores to predict your success in the college. I would say that personal essay and supplement essays are way more important than your SAT scores.

^not to forget, the highschool grades!

True^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

^^and also essays!! even with 1500+ SATs if your essays suck there is no hope there. :(

yeah! I second User95 here. With the ever growing competition, most parts of your application (if not all) should be in tact to get into great colleges…

High school grades, Scores, recommendation and ECs- each has a fair share of contribution towards college’s decision…

^true. so don’t fret over low SAT or GPA, you can try make up for that with recommendations or essays. i’m not saying they are not important but as specific said everything in your application counts towards the decision.

Yeah, the competition is increasing which in my opinion makes the SAT all the more important. If two students have all As, and one of them has 1200 and other has 1450, then the one with 1450 will undoubtedly get an upper hand. The holistic approach ensures that everything, not just numbers, are evaluated but when it comes to comparison, indices like SAT does matter a great deal.

I mean SAT matters, it really does, but if the essay of the 1200 student shows the personality of the writer quite well and has been able to convey the students’ passion while on the other hand the 1450 student’s essay is murky and generic then we cannot predict who will be a better candidate just through the SAT scores. Many things trump a poor SAT score, we can’t really expect a 1600 student to get into every college s/he applies to, can we? SAT is important but we can’t really take a score band and predict the chances of students there to get in. that’s all i’m saying.

With a 2300+, you should be fine.

@fcbmax and eehlauna, sat will get u in the race but won’t win you races at awfully competitive colleges like HYPSM… or williams and amherst …

to stand out against the awful lot of applicants, everything unique will count… like a unique EC, unique essay or some unique circumstances… and remember unique in a good way…

^exactly my point.

I agree with the part that it won’t be much of the advantage once one is in the race but still it does matter. And I have seen one applicant accepted despite only half of his essay in the application because he had good SAT and best of grades.

^maybe. but for the colleges quantumtuneling mentioned i doubt the example you gave would hold.

Everything matters. But colleges have their own set of priorities.

half essay?? OMG!! That shows a serious lack of ability to follow simple rules.

^Yes, Colleges do have priorities and factors such as SAT, EC, Grades and Essays have different order and hierarchy of importance at different colleges.
